How to become a PR & Media Hacker at scandiweb?
We are a very inclusive company with colleagues from over 30 countries across all continents. We welcome people from all walks of life who can complete a practical test by showing how they think, create stories, and turn an ordinary business topic into something people want to discuss.
This is not a traditional PR position where your main responsibility is to prepare press releases, upload them to distribution platforms, and send the same pitch to a long media list. We are looking for someone who knows how to direct people's attention.
Your job will be to find the tension, consequence, opponent, proof, or human angle that turns it into a story worth sharing.
Sometimes the story already exists and needs to be discovered. Sometimes you will help create the real event, benchmark, public challenge, experiment, debate, collaboration, or campaign that gives the media a reason to cover it.
We welcome previous experience in PR, journalism, communications, creative agencies, content, startups, or growth marketing. However, the strongest evidence of your ability will be how you approach the practical tasks.
We value your ability to deliver results, your curiosity, your persistence, and your openness to learn from feedback. Continuous learning and acting on feedback are among our core organizational values.
What are the responsibilities of a PR & Media Hacker?
As a PR & Media Hacker at scandiweb, your main responsibility will be to create public attention around scandiweb, internal ventures, company developments, and selected client projects.
You will work closely with company founders and business leaders to identify stories that deserve public attention. You will not wait for someone to hand you a finished announcement. You will proactively search for opportunities, develop the angle, shape the campaign, collect the proof, and bring the story to the right audience.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Finding PR opportunities inside scandiweb (e.g., projects, client work, internal discussions, product development, research, technical achievements, market changes, etc)
- Turning complex or seemingly ordinary topics into stories worth sharing with a strong headline, tension, consequence, and reason for people to care;
- Developing creative PR campaigns and stunts and making people speak about it;
- Creating real newsworthy moments when a strong story does not yet exist, rather than just waiting for them to appear;
- Building several media angles around the same core event for different audiences;
- Researching journalists, editors, newsletter writers, podcasters, creators, analysts, and industry communities that are relevant to each story;
- Preparing personalized pitches and reaching out directly through email, social media, calls, introductions, events, and other appropriate channels;
- Building long-term relationships with media professionals by understanding what they cover and bringing them useful, timely, and credible stories;
- Coordinating interviews, expert comments, supporting data, visuals, demonstrations, customer evidence, and spokesperson preparation;
- Working with content, design, video, data, and development teams to create the materials needed to prove and distribute a story;
- Monitoring public conversations, competitor activity, industry news, and cultural trends to identify moments when scandiweb can contribute a relevant point of view;
- Responding quickly when an unexpected media opportunity appears and coordinating the required internal contributors;
- Using AI and research tools to monitor media, find patterns, identify relevant contacts, develop angles, and improve outreach without turning communication into automated spam;
- Measuring campaign results, documenting what worked, and improving future campaigns based on actual media response and business impact.
The number of press releases produced will not measure success in this role.
It will be measured by the quality and relevance of earned media coverage, the conversations your campaigns create, the relationships you build, the attention generated among the right audiences, and the business opportunities supported by your work.
What do we expect from you?
We are looking for a curious, persistent, and highly proactive person who naturally looks for the story behind what is happening.
You may come from PR, journalism, media, content, communications, creative strategy, startup marketing, or another relevant background. A traditional PR career can come in handy. Still, you should be able to demonstrate that you have previously attracted attention, earned coverage, built an audience, or created public interest around an idea.
The following qualities will help you succeed in the role:
- Strong news judgment and the ability to understand why one story gets covered while another is ignored;
- The ability to find a compelling angle in technical, commercial, or otherwise ordinary information;
- Excellent headline, pitch, and short-form writing skills;
- Confident written and spoken English, as you will be working with international media and clients;
- The ability to understand technical and business topics and explain them in simple language;
- A proactive attitude and willingness to contact people directly rather than waiting for inbound interest;
- Persistence when pitches are ignored, rejected, or require several attempts before receiving a response;
- Comfort working with incomplete information and developing a campaign while the underlying project is still evolving;
- The ability to manage several stories, stakeholders, and deadlines at the same time;
- Confidence when communicating with founders, executives, technical experts, clients, journalists, and creators;
- The ability to work independently, make decisions, and take responsibility for campaign outcomes;
- Curiosity about media, business, technology, eCommerce, culture, and the reasons people share information;
- A practical understanding of social media, online communities, podcasts, newsletters, creator channels, and other forms of media beyond traditional publications.
Existing relationships with journalists, editors, creators, or industry media will be considered an advantage. However, we value your ability to identify and build the right relationships more than the size of an existing contact list.
Experience in eCommerce or technology will also be considered an advantage, but it is not mandatory. We will help you understand our industry, projects, services, and technical context.
What do we offer?
- Monthly salary of 3200-3800 EUR NET, depending on experience and execution level.
- Opportunity to gain stock options within the company
- Support for hardware upgrades;
- Core health insurance coverage and sports bonuses;
- A diverse multinational team of experts to learn from;
- Legendary online and onsite events to celebrate our success together.
