This role sits in Howden UK and Ireland Retail, which has over seventy entities that have recently merged into one, and c.7,000+ colleagues in 200+ locations. The role covers a broad spectrum of communication skills, including PR, social media, and content creation. The successful candidate will contribute to the implementation of Retail’s external communication plan, amplifying campaigns, news, and brand awareness.
The role sits in the External Communications team, part of Retail’s Communication Centre of Excellence, and reports into the Senior PR & Communications Manager. This is a hybrid role with at least one day a week spent in the London office with both colleagues and internal clients.
The ideal person would be a confident communicator with at least a two years’ experience in content production, PR, and/or social media management. They will consider themselves a true team player, self-motivated and enthusiastic, have strong organisational skills, and excellent writing and communication abilities. They will also need to have the ability to work quickly, efficiently and methodically within a fast-paced, changing, environment.
Primary scope of role: Deliver effective communications through social media, public relations, and Howden’s digital platforms to enhance brand visibility, engage both current and prospective audiences, and support the strategic objectives of UK&I Retail.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Retail’s Design Centre of Excellence to create visual assets for PR, social media and content campaigns.
- Support the senior PR and communications manager to create and deliver a coordinated social media content strategy across the Retail business.
- Produce and publish concise and engaging social media content, for Retail’s core social media channels with a focus on but not limited to LinkedIn, which resonates with Retail’s target audiences, driving engagement and results.
- Produce high-quality PR content and manage both reactive and proactive news distribution to the media. Support PR efforts by developing media relationships, pitching stories, developing and communicating research angles, arranging interviews and speaking opportunities, planning and hosting events, and working with partners to clearly communicate Howden’s brand and messaging.
- Produce high-quality content that supports Retail’s external communication plan, including press releases, social media posts, newsletters, blog articles, etc.
- Confidence to participate and contribute to the development of content creation during brainstorms and planning meetings, using data where available to inform content approaches.
- Collaborate with Retail’s Digital Centre of Excellence to ensure PR and content is published across relevant digital platforms.
- Provide administrative support for daily and monthly tasks, such as maintaining the coverage tracker, creating monthly reports, compiling media lists, updating activity planners, and managing file systems.
Skills and Attributes
- Experience developing and delivering multi-channel communication campaigns, diligently measuring the effectiveness, and confident working with multiple stakeholders.
- Strong copywriting/editorial content creation skills with a creative acumen to help with content creation, PR and social media storytelling and visualising messages using different media e.g. social, video, photography, podcasts.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate clearly and confidently.
- A collaborative mindset—someone who enjoys working with others and building relationships.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-moving environment.
- Proven experience with MS365 apps, and familiarity with organisational platforms like Monday.com and social media scheduling platforms is a bonus
