PR & Communications Manager
We're looking for a creative yet analytically-minded individual to take on the exciting role of PR & Communications Manager, who is ready to hit the ground running and help us to grow the Capital One brand in the UK.
This role is key to shaping and influencing how people view Capital One externally, and will lead on the consumer and corporate communication strategy. From getting campaigns and stories live, creating engaging content for earned and owned media, managing regular touchpoints between internal teams and agencies, as well as owning a wide range of exciting projects, no two days in this role will be the same.
Reporting to the Head of Brand, you will be a key part of a tightly knit team working with internal colleagues and external partners to help us deliver against our strategy to enhance and protect the reputation of Capital One in the UK.
You will need to craft inspiring briefs for our creative partners to develop compelling communications, rooted in content marketing and Digital PR, delivered through the right mix of earned, owned and paid channels. You'll also be a key figure in reputation management, working with internal stakeholders across the business to protect the reputation of the business, so a solid grasp of crisis management and media relations is vital to success in this role.
What You'll Do

  • Work with the Head of Brand in the end to end delivery of integrated, multi-channel owned & earned marketing campaigns, from initial briefing to final sign off, including:
    • Digital PR - corporate and consumer
    • Organic and paid social media
    • Influencer marketing
    • Content marketing
  • You'll take charge of driving our news agenda, seeking out opportunities for impactful positive media coverage, and creating engaging content that connects with our audiences across other customer-facing touchpoints.
  • You'll be responsible for leading on our corporate communication strategy and execution, managing our external agency and working with internal stakeholders to ensure the Capital One brand is represented appropriately in press
  • You'll support the Head of Brand in managing reputational risk, both proactively and reactively - including working through any escalations at pace, collaborating with internal teams to get to the best possible outcomes and ultimately protect the external reputation of the business
  • You'll brief internal and external creative teams, seeking their expertise on insights like competitor activity or on creative for marketing activity
  • Oversee the production of campaign materials, including writing, editing and proofing copy, ensuring communications remain on brand at all times
  • Reporting on KPIs, including campaign measurement and brand metrics at a regular agreed cadence.
  • You'll be curious about the external market and will champion and embed best practice standards while driving continuous improvement and new ways of working at every opportunity.
  • Form great connections between Brand and wider teams in the business to generate a regular drumbeat of content
  • Own projects end-to-end, both long-term and short-term


What you'll bring:

  • Ability to be both creative and analytical - so you're able to craft creative marketing campaigns that are grounded in insight and navigate data to articulate their effectiveness
  • A strong communicator, both written and verbal - you'll be able to craft on-message stories and present them to internal and external stakeholders in an engaging way
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to work collaboratively and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You'll have experience of working with external agencies as an extension of your team
  • Strong judgement and understanding of the internal and external landscape, and an ability to bring the outside in to look objectively at situations and advise on reputational risk mitigation
  • Experience of managing a busy workload and great organisational skills
  • Experience of working with creative agencies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Resilience in your approach, able to overcome setbacks and have a solution focused mindset
  • Tenacity to grow and develop quickly in role, taking on bigger responsibilities as they arise


Qualifications/experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in both consumer and corporate PR, at a mid to senior level, preferably in-house
  • A proven track record of managing media relations and executing successful PR campaigns and strategies
  • Demonstrable experience in crisis management and handling unexpected issues
  • Preferred, but not essential - experience of working in financial services or another regulated sector
  • Preferred but not essential - CIPR/CIM qualified
  • Preferred, but not essential - Experience in content development and social media strategy delivery


Where and how you'll work
This is a permanent position based in either our Nottingham or London offices.
We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home.
We're big on collaboration and connection, so you'll be based in our Nottingham or London office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
