Power BI Adoption Lead

Most Power BI roles ask you to build what someone else has already specified. This one asks you to decide how an entire enterprise uses Power BI — and then to make it happen.

A leading UK financial services organisation is standing up a modern cloud data platform, with Power BI as the strategic reporting layer on top of it. The governed semantic layer, certified datasets, enterprise design standards and community of practice are still being shaped — and the organisation is serious enough about data capability to have already invested in it. You will decide what good looks like, and own it end to end.

This is deliberately not a pure Power BI developer role, and equally not a change-management role. It is the rarer combination: someone who can build a performant enterprise semantic model, credibly challenge a developer's DAX, then stand in front of the business and teach it.

What you'll do

  • Own the enterprise Power BI adoption roadmap, with measurable adoption and value targets.
  • Build engagement from the ground up: stakeholder buy-in, a champions network, forums, clinics and a genuine community of practice.
  • Design and personally deliver structured training — workshops, learning materials and guidance, pitched from Excel-refugee to seasoned analyst.
  • Shape the governed semantic layer alongside data engineering: consistent KPI definitions, certification processes, naming conventions and refresh strategy.
  • Author the enterprise reporting Design Guide — standards, templates, palettes, UX conventions — and hold the organisation to it.
  • Establish workspace governance: deployment pipelines, Dev/QA/Prod design, RLS/CLS, sensitivity labelling and auditability.
  • Build and optimise flagship dashboards yourself, and troubleshoot performance where others are stuck.
  • Reduce duplicated, ungoverned reporting — and prove you have.

Requirements

Essential experience

  • Power BI technical depth — you have personally delivered enterprise-scale Power BI. Advanced DAX, Power Query/M, semantic model design and optimisation, large and complex datasets, workspace strategy and administration, RLS, certified datasets. You can coach on all of it and push back on poor implementation.

  • Adoption & change leadership — you have created an enterprise adoption roadmap, run champion networks, driven cultural change around data-driven decision making, and measured adoption and business value. This is the most critical dimension of the role.

  • Training & enablement — you have designed and personally delivered structured training programmes and built the materials yourself. Occasional knowledge-sharing is not what we mean.

  • Governance & operating model — reporting standards, dashboard design principles, workspace management, certified dataset processes and self-service controls. You know how to scale Power BI without creating a governance problem.

Desirable

  • Microsoft Fabric — architecture, capacity and medallion/lakehouse patter
  • Power Apps, ideally integrated with Power BI.
  • Sensitive, confidential or regulated data; Azure exposure; PL-300 and/or

Interview process

Shortlisted candidates will prepare a maximum of two PowerPoint slides on their approach to enterprise Power BI adoption, and demo a Power BI dashboard they personally designed and built on a dataset of their choice — covering the business problem, auorytelling, accessibility and how they would drive ongoing usage. Format and style are entirely your own.
