Who we’re looking for

We are looking for a Position Management Lead to own and drive our global Position Management (workforce planning) capability. This is a role that combines operational delivery with people-facing partnering and strategic support, sitting at the intersection of our People & Culture (P&C) function, business stakeholders, and operational delivery teams.

You will be the accountable owner and recognised subject matter expert (SME) for Position Management, ensuring data integrity, governance, and consistent execution globally. Sitting within the P&C Operations team and reporting to the Global Head of P&C Operations, you will act as a trusted partner to P&C Business Partners (BPs), the wider business, Talent Acquisition, and Reward teams, providing advisory support while also driving and completing operational tasks yourself. The role is critical to ensuring that the workforce structure aligns with business needs and approved resourcing plans.

The role-holder will quickly become a subject matter expert in Position Management and job architecture, applying critical thinking to resolve complex cases, challenge requests where appropriate, and improve processes and controls. They will be confident working with budgets and numerical data, using analysis and insight to inform workforce planning, talent decisions and broader People & Culture initiatives.

We have around 6,000 people on six continents. And we’ve been around for over 200 years but keep adapting as society and technology changes. What doesn’t change is our commitment to helping our clients, and society, prosper.

The base

We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre and we have everything we need to work flexibly.

The team

People make this company, which gives the People & Culture team a critical role, including sourcing the talent that makes Schroders the business it is, providing training and development, creating employee benefits packages, and other vital elements that make Schroders an attractive place to work. We are the engine room where everything relating to our employee journey is managed.

What you'll do

Partnering & Advisory

  • Build strong working relationships with P&C BPs, business leaders, Talent Acquisition, and Reward to enable effective and consistent Position Management globally.
  • Provide advice and guidance on position governance and best practice, including when and how exceptions can be managed.
  • Actively challenge and influence where requests do not align to policy, governance, or the intended operating model, offering practical alternatives.
  • Work with budgets and numerical data, using analysis and insight to inform workforce planning, talent decisions and broader People & Culture initiatives.
  • Use job architecture software to help size and grade roles based on job descriptions and information provided to you by the business.
  • Identify recurring issues and root causes; propose and deliver process improvements that reduce friction and improve compliance.
  • Support stakeholder education, helping P&C BPs and the business understand Position Management principles, governance, and their responsibilities within the process.

Operational Delivery

  • Translate business and P&C Business Partner requirements into clear, actionable requests to be processed in-system, or action changes directly where appropriate.
  • Work flexibly across varying operating models, whether receiving requests via P&C BPs, engaging directly with the business, or coordinating with Operations colleagues to ensure changes are progressed efficiently regardless of channel.
  • Manage and execute day-to-day Position Management activities, ensuring timely and accurate processing across all position lifecycle events.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality and integrity, identifying and resolving discrepancies proactively.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place and consistently followed; identify and escalate risks or non-compliance where necessary.
  • Demonstrable ability to build strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups with the confidence to push back/influence.
  • Intellectual curiosity: able to learn quickly, ask the right questions, and develop a deep understanding of Position Management nuances.
  • Strong critical thinking: able to assess requests, identify risks and impacts, and constructively challenge
  • Strong operational discipline: attention to detail, prioritisation, and comfort managing administrative tasks with high accuracy.
  • Clear communicator (written and verbal), able to explain processes and decisions in a pragmatic way.
  • Experience in Position Management, job architecture, workforce operations, or HR operations.
  • Experience working in a global and matrixed organisation.
  • Proactive, self-starting, and comfortable taking ownership of outcomes.
  • Comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level.
  • Systems literacy, with the ability to understand how position and organisational structures are managed within HR systems (Oracle preferable).
