Who we’re looking for
The Portfolio Manager is responsible for manage and developing relationships with US clients serviced through SWUSL’s UK operating model, providing investment expertise and portfolio oversight while ensuring compliance with applicable UK and US regulatory requirements. Collaborate with colleagues across global teams to deliver consistent, high-quality investment outcomes and client service.
Portfolio Managers work closely with senior colleagues and specialists, developing their judgement, capability, and commercial confidence over time. They also play an important role in supporting the development of more junior colleagues, sharing knowledge, and helping build capability across the team. This role is a core building block in the firm’s client franchise and a key pipeline role for future senior leaders. The role holder should hold suitable regulatory-approved Level 4 and 7 qualifications, such as CISI.

Key Responsibilities1. Client Management & Growth
Manage a portfolio of clients, delivering consistent, high-quality service
Build trusted, long-term relationships through regular, proactive engagement
Identify opportunities to grow client relationships in line with client needs
Support net new business through referrals and introductions
Deliver revenue growth through disciplined, client-appropriate activity
Deliver agreed targets across net new assets, revenue growth, and client profitability metrics
Escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately
Provide a responsive, professional, and personal client experience
Ensure client objectives, circumstances, and risk profiles are well understood
Maintain accurate records and documentation for all client interactions
Support client reviews, portfolio updates, and implementation activity
Work closely with Investment, Planning, and specialist teams to deliver solutions
Contribute positively to client retention and satisfaction
Operate within all regulatory, group, and divisional policies
Complete KYC, client reviews, and documentation accurately and on time
Understand portfolio risk parameters and escalate concerns early
Demonstrate sound judgement in client decision-making
Support a strong risk culture through disciplined behaviours
Complete all mandatory training within required timelines
Use the firm’s platform effectively to support client outcomes
Follow agreed processes to ensure consistency and efficiency
Support appropriate use of discretionary or centralised solutions
Use data and tools to track client activity and delivery
Leverage data, insights, and digital tools to improve client outcomes and decision-making
Adopt new tools and ways of working where they add value
Contribute to continuous improvement of client processes
Work collaboratively with colleagues across Wealth Management
Support Portfolio Directors and Team Managers in delivering client outcomes
Develop and support more junior colleagues, including Assistant/Associate Portfolio Managers and Client Services Executives, through coaching, knowledge-sharing, and day-to-day guidance
Share knowledge, insight, and best practice with peers
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and professional team environment
Represent the firm positively with clients and internal partners
