About this role

Being part of BlackRock means joining a community of experienced, ambitious professionals working on some of the world’s most complex financial challenges. Our founder-led culture continues to feel entrepreneurial — we work with pace, purpose, and a strong commitment to delivering for our clients.

BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) business is the investment group at the heart of the firm’s portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on BlackRock’s full toolkit of index, factor, and alpha-seeking capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and differentiated alpha insights. With more than 600 investment professionals, MASS combines sophisticated asset allocation expertise, thorough risk management, extensive market insights, and industrial scale implementation capabilities to develop whole portfolio solutions for wealth and institutional clients. MASS currently manages over $2.5 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in London, New York, San Francisco, and Asia Pacific.

Team Overview

The MASS Portfolio Management team is responsible for a broad range of portfolio management activities across multi-asset and sustainable equity mandates and solutions. The team includes approximately 100 portfolio managers globally, with strong regional alignment reflecting key investing centres of expertise. In close partnership with colleagues across the platform, the team designs, manages, and analyses global multi-asset portfolios for institutional and retail clients. The team also works closely with CIOs, model managers, and researchers on portfolio construction and new business design, contributes to investment research, oversees implementation, and drives the enhancement of the portfolio management operating platform.

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced investor to join the team and help manage physical equity portfolios and equity sleeves within broader multi-asset mandates, across a diverse range of investment strategies and styles spanning sustainable quantitative active management to discretionary thematic baskets. The Physical Equity book spans multiple fund structures and global regulatory frameworks, including separate accounts, portfolio sleeves, and funds such as U.S.-listed and EMEA-listed active ETFs.

This role offers meaningful scope to shape both the success of the team and the broader MASS business. We welcome applicants who are intellectually curious, thoughtful in their approach, and motivated to improve how work gets done. The ideal candidate will bring strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to build effective relationships across teams, while thriving in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a senior PM for the MASS Physical Equity book - designing, constructing, and managing physical equity portfolios and sleeves; supporting new business opportunities; and helping to develop the platform, technology, and processes needed to operate effectively at scale across a global team.
  • Lead day-to-day portfolio management activities, including implementing investment strategies, managing client flows, overseeing FX hedging and rebalancing, and monitoring portfolio positioning, performance, and risk.
  • Ensure mandates are managed in line with performance objectives, investment guidelines, risk parameters, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Drive innovation in the use of Aladdin portfolio management tools and related automation capabilities, including citizen coding, to improve and scale investment processes and portfolio management decision-making.
  • Collaborate with researchers, strategists, and investors across MASS and BlackRock to develop investment capabilities and processes that support consistent alpha generation.
  • Establish strong governance and shared methodologies for portfolio construction and implementation across multiple investment processes and products within MASS.

Experience / Qualifications

  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in global active quantitative equity portfolio management, or a closely related role, with a strong interest in single-name equity investing. Deep understanding of portfolio construction and optimisation under a range of constraints is important. Familiarity with ESG signals and regulations would be beneficial.
  • Experience managing equity instruments and equity derivatives, as well as FX hedges for global mandates with developed and emerging market exposure. Knowledge of corporate actions processing and equity trading conventions, such as round lots and stamp taxes, is valuable.
  • Ability to manage workflows and projects across a team of portfolio managers, set a clear direction for evolving tools and processes, and represent team priorities with internal partners. A proactive approach to building team capabilities, sharing knowledge and adapting to changing business needs will be important.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify investment and operational challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and risk-management skills, supported by a systems-oriented mindset. Technical skills such as Python, Tableau, and SQL are strongly preferred.
  • Careful attention to detail, with the ability to stay focused across a broad range of portfolio types and activities.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a highly collaborative global team.
