About the opportunity:

Challenger Investment Management (Challenger IM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Challenger Limited, is an alternative investment manager with a strong pedigree in global developed credit markets.

Challenger Investment Management Fixed Income (CIM FI) is an experienced institutional manager with a strong track record managing a diverse fixed income portfolio, with funds under management of approx. $16.4 billion as at 30 June 2025 across a global opportunity set in public and private credit markets.

Due to the growing demand for Global ABS debt investments, there is a need for a Portfolio Manager to join the Global ABS investment team, focussing on global CLOs. The role will be located in Challenger’s London office.

This new role will be an integral part of the Challenger IM Fixed Income team and a key member of the team responsible for the management of the European & US securitised credit portfolio. The London based team can typically spend two to four weeks per annum working in Challenger’s Sydney office.

The focus of the role is across the full investment process including new investment analysis and review, along with portfolio and position monitoring. The Portfolio Manager will have significant potential and support for career development within this growing team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyse market news, emerging themes and implications to identify primary and secondary market opportunities
  • Prepare and present investment analysis and reviews to key stakeholders based on thorough issuer due diligence, structural analysis and cashflow modelling
  • Support investment strategy process and actively participate in portfolio construction meetings and other investment team meetings
  • Support the portfolio monitoring process, complete reviews of credits in the portfolio with recommendations
  • Enhancing and building on existing quantitative and qualitative processes
  • Conduct research on new sectors and investment strategies
  • Interacting with other teams including Operations, Finance, Legal and Risk
  • Contribution to marketing efforts as required

Skills and experience:

  • 6+ years in-depth CLO and securitised credit experience, focussed on investment analysis
  • Experience and a good understanding of different structured credit products, markets and regulations
  • Good understanding of global financial markets - understanding of macro drivers and adjacent asset classes
  • Good understanding of rating agencies methodologies
  • Superior analytical skills - analyse deal documentation, think through scenarios, identify risks
  • Strong quantitative skills - ability to build cashflow models and run robust scenario analysis, ability to work with large data sets
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, plan and manage own tasks and performance
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment and actively contribute to team development and knowledge sharing
  • Strong Intex, Bloomberg, Microsoft Office tool skills
  • Programming ability - not required but an advantage
