Career

You are an Assistant Portfolio Manager with your CFA/CISI Level 6 and ready to move to your first full Portfolio Manager role. We are looking for someone who is rising in their career, wants to be at a growing company, and get mentored by one of the top PMs in the SouthWest.

The key trait we are looking for is client gravitas. We want someone our Portfolio Manager or our high performing Financial Planners can trust to be credible in front of HNW clients.

Longer term, this role plays a key part in strengthening our discretionary fund management capability across Bristol, the South West and Wales.

About the role

Working alongside a very established Senior Portfolio Manager who will coach you, you will manage lower complexity client portfolios immediately, generating revenue, and leading the client experience. You can become the eventual successor to the Senior Portfolio Manager.

We pride ourselves on the calibre of our people, exceptional client service, deep client relationships, and being the most trusted advice service in our region. We are not a household name, we are more exclusive than that and grow by the reputation of our people to deliver excellence.

Accountabilities
  • Manage a client book, deliver strong investment outcomes and client experience.

  • Work closely with the Head of Office PM to develop portfolio construction and oversight skills.

  • Build confidence and trust with senior Financial Planners across the Bristol office.

  • Support investment input for smaller client segments during growth or mobilisation phases.

  • Contribute to the development of regional DFM capability, particularly linked to acquisitions.

  • Participate in investment research, portfolio reviews and governance processes.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of current market conditions, asset allocation views, and investment research.

  • Progressively increase autonomy and responsibility in line with a development plan.

This favours those who "learn best by doing”, with structured support, exposure, and coaching.

Skills and Experience

You must have client gravitas, plenty of quiet ambition, and the potential for personal growth in addition to:

  • Level 6 qualified via CISI or the CFA.

  • 3+ years’ experience in wealth management or portfolio management, ideally as an Assistant Portfolio Manager or Associate Portfolio Manager role and you need that step up.

  • Experience in investment management, portfolio analysis, discretionary management or similar

  • Strong understanding of investment markets, asset allocation, and portfolio risk.

  • A solid grounding in asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk principles.

  • The confidence to engage and build trusted relationships with Financial Planners and clients across Bristol and the SouthWest.

  • Confident communicator able to present in front of clients and comfortable at professional network events.

We will support you developing into leading complex portfolio management for high net worth clients.

Benefits
  • Competitive Pension Scheme - we contribute 6%, you 3%

  • 26 days holiday plus bank holidays

  • Private Medical Insurance

  • Life Assurance (4x)

  • Group Income Protection

  • Work From Anywhere policy

Our agile working environment means you may engage in various tasks and projects, which keeps work interesting and you get to develop and grow.
