The GSMA’s Spectrum Team works with international bodies, national governments and the global mobile industry to build the foundation for the future of mobile. Our mission is to ensure that mobile operators have timely and affordable access to appropriate spectrum resources to meet the growing demands of mobile services. About the Role

The winning candidate will be a compelling storyteller who takes pride and enjoyment from writing clear, concise copy. They will have a track record in delivering written work in a business environment and an ability to write for multiple media – from business reports to blogs. The candidate will be able to adapt their written style to suit varied audiences and will be expected to develop a clear understanding of mobile policy to ensure that complex technical issues are broken down into compelling, simple English for a global audience.

Engagement with government and industry officials is also a crucial part of the job and the candidate must be comfortable discussing and explaining policy issues while representing the GSMA in front of mobile sector stakeholders.

This is a job for a confident self-starter who is comfortable mixing with senior officials and industry personnel, as well as managing upwards in a busy business environment.

The primary functions of the Policy Writer are to:

  • Develop policy materials - from reports and advocacy texts to blogs and PR content - that effectively communicate the GSMA’s stance on spectrum issues.
  • Adapt written messaging and policy positions into informative and inspiring slide decks.
  • Monitor domestic and international spectrum developments, translate complex regulatory issues into compelling written content.
  • Support the Spectrum Team and wider GSMA with content for events, including speeches, and presentations.
  • Understand industry positions on mobile policy and develop understanding and knowledge at industry and international meetings. Represent the GSMA at external meetings and in public fora alongside senior colleagues.
  • Work closely with members of the Spectrum Team and colleagues in other departments to support GSMA policy goals.
  • Further engage in spectrum policy discussions and collaborate with spectrum experts, building a network with members, administrations, and other stakeholders.

About You

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Previous delivering written content in a pressurised professional environment. This is a job that requires superb execution of written English with great verbal communication.
  • An interest in working in a policy environment. Within that, an ability to quickly understand complex technical/regulatory issues and relate them to audiences which are unfamiliar to them.
  • Comfort in building business relationships.
  • Skills in editing and subbing documentation.
  • Familiarity with Word and Powerpoint. Ability to design simple presentations and lay out documents along GSMA guidelines.
