Senior Platform Operations Engineer

The Infrastructure Platform Engineering team designs, builds, and maintains the core systems that keep QRT’s research and trading platforms running reliably at scale. We ensure infrastructure is highly automated, observable, and resilient, working closely with quantitative researchers, developers, and engineering teams to continuously improve performance and production reliability across QRT’s global operations.

This hands-on role focuses on operating production systems effectively while shaping sustainable operational practices as scale, complexity, and change increase. You will partner with engineers delivering new capabilities to ensure systems are operable, observable, and supportable from the outset, with the core responsibility of keeping platform operations stable, well understood, and progressively easier to run – systematically reducing operational risk and manual effort. The role carries significant ownership with scope expected to expand over time.

Your Future Role within QRT

• Operate, maintain, and improve production platform environments with a focus on reliability
• Implement operational automation to reduce toil and manual intervention
• Partner with engineers delivering new capabilities to ensure operational readiness
• Develop and maintain runbooks, standards, and escalation paths that scale beyond individual knowledge
• Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews, driving systemic improvement
• Identify recurring operational issues and eliminate them at the source
• Contribute to defining and sustaining clear operational responsibilities
• Take increasing ownership of operational coordination and prioritisation
• Support and mentor other engineers in disciplined operational practices

Your Present Skillset

• 10+ years of experience operating production systems in a reliability-focused operations, SRE, or platform environment
• Strong experience operating production infrastructure and platforms
• A disciplined approach to reliability, incidents, and operational hygiene
• Experience in automation-first, infrastructure-as-code driven environments
• Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure lifecycle management
• Hands-on experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation
• Experience with GitLab for CI/CD and operational workflows
• Experience with GitOps practices for controlled, auditable change
• Bash and Python for automation and tooling
• Comfort operating across AWS and significant on-premise infrastructure
• Experience operating IaC-driven environments with real operational constraints
• Experience with CMDB and inventory sources of truth for automation (e.g., NetBox or similar)
• Familiarity with container-based platforms and their operational tooling
• Familiarity with Kubernetes-centric tooling such as Helm and Argo-style controllers
• Ability to recognise patterns in failure and drive durable fixes
• Clear communication during both normal operations and incidents
• A bias toward ownership, follow-through, and continuous improvement
