Job Description
How you’ll make an impactThis hands‑on role supports day‑to‑day site reliability work while learning to build the automation, observability, and operational patterns that will feed a future self‑service platform. In practice you’ll help keep production services stable, reduce toil through small automations, and partner with senior SREs and platform engineers to instrument and standardise services—raising team-wide delivery reliability and improving the customer experience as the platform matures.
What you'll do- Respond to and support production incidents — triage, follow runbooks, escalate to seniors, and help restore service while capturing immediate learnings.
- Participate during incidents under mentorship — take first‑line actions and hand off complex issues to more experienced responders.
- Help define and instrument SLIs/SLOs with engineering partners — add basic metrics and alerts and verify they map to service behaviour.
- Maintain and improve runbooks and playbooks — convert tribal knowledge into clear, runnable procedures and small automations.
- Improve observability coverage — add metrics, traces, and logs to make failures visible and actionable for debugging.
- Build and maintain small automations and remediation scripts — remove repetitive manual steps and reduce operational friction.
- Contribute to Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD work — implement templates/modules and follow established patterns for safe provisioning and deployment.
- Assist with capacity, cost, and health monitoring — run dashboards and reports, surface anomalies, and propose optimisations.
- Follow and apply security checks in build and runtime workflows — address findings with guidance and ensure baseline controls are met.
- Participate in blameless postmortems and follow‑through on assigned remediation items — document causes and complete follow ups.
- 1–3 years practical experience in SRE/DevOps or cloud engineering roles, internships, or related projects.
- Basic AWS familiarity — core services, networking concepts, and autoscaling patterns.
- Exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code and CI/CD (Terraform/CloudFormation/AWS CDK or similar, and Git‑based pipelines).
- Foundational observability skills — experience with metrics, logging, or tracing tools.
- Scripting ability (Python, Bash, or similar) to automate tasks and build small tools.
- Familiarity with Linux, desirable.
- Knowledge of containerisation, desirable.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and following incident response practices.
- Collaborative communicator who asks questions, documents clearly, and works well across teams.
- Detail‑focused, proactive learner — open to feedback, curious, and committed to steady improvement.
