Job Description

We’re looking for a Risk & Control Manager to join our growing People team on a 12 month fixed term contract. This role is a unique opportunity to build and embed how we manage risks across the People team globally and will have a direct impact on Wise’s mission.

This role will give you an exciting opportunity to work internationally with talented people, in a fast-paced and truly global environment, while also giving you variety, scope and the ability to make an impact at scale.


Your mission

Our People Services function is scaling and want to become the custodian of regulations, employee compliance and people related policies at Wise. We’re ensuring compliance in our ways of working and keeping our finger on the risk pulse ensuring we can continue to scale and grow.

You’ll play a key role by managing our risk management processes and providing data driven people risk insights to our leadership team, drive projects to uplift our risk and compliance capability within the People team and ensure our global people policies are maintained to a high standard. You will build close partnerships with other Wise Compliance, Risk, Audit and Privacy Teams.

This role will report to our Global People Risk and Compliance Lead based in London.


Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the People team:

  • Proactively make sure key People risk indicators are well-defined and understood, incidents are managed, and risk & control assessments are completed

  • Make recommendations to improve control effectiveness and/or identify where new controls are required;

  • Manage and report on risks, controls, issues, incidents and the associated remediating actions

  • Embed awareness of all of the governance related initiatives (issues, incidents & actions) and regulatory or audit deadlines;

  • Support risk assessments in the 1st line People teams to then identify and monitor completion of risk-mitigating actions to address the root causes;

  • Oversee the maintenance of our global people policies library and help define policies when necessary

  • Lead on regulatory or risk projects impacting the People team 

  • Work collaboratively with and foster positive relationships across the three lines of defence on any deficiencies or control gaps as needed and

  • Innovate and find new ways to build effective governance and risk management processes


About you:

  • Have worked in a UK banking, professional services or fintech and have a good understanding of industry risk standards and practices;

  • Experience in Risk & Control Assessments, Audit Management, Incident Management and Issue & Action Management;

  • Data driven - developing KRI’s, spotting trends and able to recommend actionable insights

  • Resilient and comfortable working in a fast paced environment where the day to day job is constantly evolving and changing;

  • Great project management skills and stakeholder management at all levels

  • Curious and collaborative - we’re not about “one size fits all” or looking for off-the-shelf solutions; we need you to think creatively and customise your outlook.

  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines through to completion and have excellent attention to detail
