As a People Operations Advisor (6-month fixed-term contract), you will be an experience HR generalist, providing pragmatic, high-quality advice and support to managers and employees. You will manage a caseload of People casework, ensuring matters are handled consistently, fairly and in line with Newton’s values, while contributing to an exceptional experience across the People Operations function.

A key priority in this role is building our future ways of working in People Operations, with a strong emphasis on self-serve and automation. You will identify the highest-volume/highest-friction topics, simplify and document end-to-end processes, and translate and embed these into scalable assets such as manager/employee self-serve guidance and templates. You will also work closely with other members of the team and functions to capture and structure knowledge for our HR chatbot/knowledge base so advice is easy to access and consistently applied. Alongside this, you will work closely with the People Administrator - providing day-to-day operational support and (where needed) helping to embed new processes (such as through our International expansion).

Key responsibilities:

  • Process, policy & template build: Map, simplify and document end-to-end processes; create and maintain clear policies, playbooks and templates that enable consistent, scalable delivery.
  • Knowledge capture for chatbot/knowledge base: Turn recurring queries and case learnings into structured knowledge articles and chatbot content, ensuring advice is accurate, easy to find and consistently applied.
  • Case advisory: Manage a caseload of People queries and cases, providing clear, practical guidance and ensuring timely, well-documented outcomes.
  • Employee relations support: Advise managers on wellbeing, performance, disciplinaries and grievances, applying sound judgement and escalating complex matters appropriately.
  • Operational delivery & administrator support: Partner with the People Administrator to keep day-to-day People Operations running smoothly, providing cover and hands-on support across core processes as needed.
  • International process embedding: Support the documentation and embedding of international People processes where required, ensuring clarity and consistency across locations.
  • Data, systems & reporting: Maintain accurate records in People systems, handle data with confidentiality, and support operational reporting and insights that inform improvements.Bullet Point

You will be an ambassador for the People function, combining strong HR generalist judgement with a practical, delivery-focused mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Requirements

You’ll be a high calibre individual with a strong HR generalist foundation and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. You will combine sound judgement and attention to detail with the ability to translate complex topics into clear guidance for managers and employees. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commercial mindset, and the confidence to navigate ambiguity and competing priorities will be key to success in this role.

This role suits someone who enjoys balancing advisory casework with building scalable ways of working. In particular, you will be motivated by improving how People Operations support is delivered through self-serve resources, automation, templates, and well-maintained policies and process documentation, so that support is consistent and easy to access.

The successful candidate will also possess the following attributes:

  • Proven experience in an HR advisory or generalist role, with the ability to manage an employee relations caseload and provide clear, pragmatic guidance.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice, with confidence applying policy consistently and fairly.
  • Demonstrable experience improving ways of working (e.g., process mapping/simplification, creating self-serve guidance, building templates/playbooks, or supporting automation of repeatable tasks).
  • Ability to capture and structure knowledge clearly (e.g., knowledge articles/FAQs, manager toolkits, or content for a chatbot/knowledge base) with a focus on usability.
  • High professional standards including quality of work, high accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively, building effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working with HR systems and using data/insight to inform recommendations and prioritise improvements.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion and exemplify a high standard of professionalism in all interactions.
  • Level 3 CIPD qualification or equivalent qualification/experience.
