Role Summary

Reporting initially to the Head of Compliance (RS), the role holder will assist the Pensions Compliance Manager (BPA) in ensuring that:

  • the business remains compliant with regulatory, industry & contractual requirements, and
  • effective ‘second line’ oversight of the service to specific BPA & Wealth, Life and Pension corporate client(s) within the EQ Retirement Solutions business unit (EQRS) is maintained.

This will involve providing support with compliance tasks and routine administrative activities under direction, over time becoming more independent. The role holder will learn across multiple areas of the EQ Group compliance function (e.g. Oversight, Data Protection, Financial Crime) and discover how it supports the wider business to manage its regulatory and legislative obligations. This will involve “on the job” training and development with an opportunity to take obtain relevant qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

The role holder is responsible for the following:

  • Assisting to the running/maintenance of the existing operating framework for the identification, management, monitoring and reporting of BPA compliance and risk issues, including:

    • Financial Crime processes (including anti-money laundering, tax evasion, ABC, sanctions, PEPs, fraud)

    • Regulatory Horizon Scanning

    • Data Protection (ICO compliance)

    • TPR compliance

    • FCA compliance

    • Second Line Assurance (monitoring)

  • Assisting in the running of the PEPs, sanctions and adverse media screening activity provided under the Administration Agreement

  • Building strong working relationships with first line colleagues to help understand, define, improve and implement BPA administration controls relating to the Administration Agreements and clear and effective communication and issue resolution

  • Support the business with relationship and commercial activities in a way which is compatible with second line oversight, including: attendance at client and EQRS internal meetings, production of meeting packs, support for both client and internal audit & quality assurance activities and providing support to the business

  • Assisting in the monitoring of all breaches (both regulatory & service levels) and the provision of MI/details of resolution internally and to the clients in specified timeframes

Skills, experience & knowledge:

  • Defined Benefit Pensions and/or experience working in a Bulk Annuity Third Party Administrator or Bulk Annuity Insurance Provider (desirable)

  • A level education or minimum 6 GCSEs at grade C (or 4) or above, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent)

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a general willingness to learn

  • Strong written and verbal skills and able to communicate with colleagues at all levels, clients and third parties

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills

  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written

  • Customer focussed

  • Ability to cope under pressure

  • Ability to work to deadlines

  • An ability to work using own initiative within boundaries, as well as in a team, to achieve maximum results

  • Good attention to detail and an ability to work effectively with people across a wide range of levels and responsibilities.

  • Good organisation and time management skills
