Service Credit Union is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team at our Corporate Headquarters in Portsmouth, NH. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for our organization. The ideal candidate will have Workday payroll software experience along with a strong understanding of payroll regulations, excellent mathematical skills, and a high level of confidentiality.

Pay: Minimum $27.00 per hour, flexible based on experience

Hours: Full time 40 hours per week. Flexible hours/Hybrid environment available based on payroll processing schedule.

The Day to Day:

  • Process weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees of Service CU’s US and Germany based operations.
  • Manage payroll for employees across multiple states, ensuring compliance with state and local tax regulations and labor laws.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data, benefits, and payroll information, and maintain efficiencies within the Workday platform; assisting with any testing of new or revised business process to ensure payroll outputs are accurate.
  • Calculate and process wage garnishments, deductions, and other payroll adjustments accurately.
  • Process monthly incentives – including applicable calculations to ensure proper adherence to overtime rules and regulations for hourly staff.
  • Working knowledge of the tuition reimbursement process and log maintenance to ensure compliance with Federal limitations.
  • Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other deductions, ensuring accurate deductions and contributions.
  • Reconcile payroll data and prepare journal entry and reports for management and accounting as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of quarter end and year end payroll processing, including reconciliation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Respond to employee inquiries via MS Teams, email or phone regarding payroll issues, tax withholding, and other related matters in a timely and professional manner.
  • Stay updated on changes in payroll regulations through participation in educational opportunities, professional publications, personal networks, and professional organizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding credit union policies and procedures, member financial data, personal information, and work-related events.
  • Provide quality support and maintain a professional relationship with peers, management, other staff, and members through cooperation, mutual trust, and respect.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as required.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Workday payroll processing is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
  • Multi-state payroll and tax experience preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
  • Must be able to balance multiple tasks and workloads.
  • Exceptional research and analytical skills
  • Meet tight deadlines and be flexible to work as needed to get tasks accomplished.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive payroll information.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.
