Role: Operative Chargehand – Western Area Mining
Hours of work: 12-hour rotating pattern (4-week day/night rotation – 74-
shift cycle)
Salary: £25,445.42 + £6,461.65 shift allowance

Job Summary
Based within the wet‑mining pit operations at Wheal Remfry, this role provides frontline leadership, supporting the Shift Captain/Supervisor in ensuring safe, efficient production.
You will supervise operatives, contribute to planning, uphold health, safety and
environmental standards, and help maintain consistent production performance. After completing training, the role will also provide cover for the Shift Captain across both day and night shifts.

The Job Role

  • Supervise production operatives during assigned shifts.

  • Operate wet‑mining equipment including hoses, pumps and SCADA‑controlled conveyors.

  • Achieve production output, quality and cost targets.

  • Maintain compliance with all health, safety and environmental standards.

  • Deputise for the Shift Captain/Supervisor when required.

  • Produce and report production metrics.

  • Attend production meetings and contribute to short- and long‑term planning.

  • Work alongside engineering and maintenance teams to support preventative maintenance.

  • Assist with training, rota planning and identifying development needs within the team.

About You

  • Supervisory experience within quarrying, mining, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environments.

  • Strong communication and leadership capabilities.

  • Good literacy, numeracy, IT skills and problem-solving ability.

  • Sound understanding of safe working practices.

  • Comfortable working in physical, outdoor industrial environments.

  • Team‑oriented, safety‑focused and proactive.
