Your team
There are broadly 4 areas of tax at IG, Corporate, Operational (Client-focused), Employment and Indirect taxes and this role sits within the Operational Tax team.
Operational taxes have a significant overlap with other client-facing and non-finance teams at IG and often require non-tax processes and data to be adapted to meet tax requirements. Consequently, this role requires strong teamwork and networking skills in addition to the usual data analytical skills you would associate with a tax role.
Your Role in the Team’s Success
To manage the Group's international operational tax obligations. Operational Taxes have become more complicated as IG Group expands and complex tax laws are rolled out.
This role is integral to ensuring accurate and timely tax filings and payments are made across the group. Prior operational tax experience is preferred but there will also be an opportunity to learn about the different types of Operational Taxes impacting IG around the world.
Successful candidate will have the ability to adapt and improve existing processes, whilst also designing new ones to keep pace with are expanding product portfolio and changes to tax laws.
IG’s tax function is based in London and reports directly to the CFO, consisting of the Group Head of Tax, along with 6 other tax professionals. This role will report to the Senior Operational Taxes & Transfer Pricing Manager.
What you'll do
The role will primarily be focused on Operational (client) tax compliance and will involve:

Assisting with US withholding tax obligations relating to IG’s Qualified Intermediary (QI) and Qualified Derivatives Dealer (QDD) statuses. This role will involve ensuring the correct KYC processes are in place to then prepare Group-wide tax calculations, payments and returns for all QDD and QI-related matters (Form 1042, Form 1042-S, Form 1099, Form 945, Form 7004, Form 8809 and 871m payments).

Assisting with Group-wide AEOI reporting obligations (FATCA/CRS). The role will involve extracting and cleansing IG client trading data to report to the tax authorities. You will also have to liaise with local stakeholders.

Preparing monthly/annual tax calculations, payments and tax returns to the Italian authorities. This includes a) Financial Transaction Taxes, b) Capital Gains Tax and c) Wealth tax

Preparing UK ISA and Other Interest returns to HMRC.

Becoming familiar with the German withholding tax rules. Assisting in issuing German tax statements to clients annually, ensuring compliance with changing tax rules.

Ensuring correct documentation from a customer perspective is in place for all the above whilst continuously reviewing and maintaining current processes and procedures

Assisting with ad-hoc projects and implementation of business initiatives where required including the operational tax implications of launching new financial products and setting up new business overseas. This includes liaising with local advisers to pitch requirements to businesses.

Liaising with IT and Front Office teams to build systems/solutions to capture relevant logic to calculate operational taxes such as FTT or CGT

Operational tax Governance. Operational taxes involve a number of teams around the business from KYC, to Dealers, Corporate Actions and finance. The role will involve liaising with all the business stakeholders to ensure they understand their involvement with respect to operational taxes.
What you'll need for this role

ACA/CTA qualified or equivalent.

Prior Operational Tax experience (a minimum of 2-3 years within Operational Tax). Knowledge of FATCA/CRS/QI regimes is desirable but not compulsory. We're looking for someone who is a fast learner who is willing to learn and grow.

Strong analytical skills – with a natural curiosity and confidence to question and dig deeper if information does not make sense.

Experience with writing queries in Excel/VBA/SQL is an advantage, but not essential.

Adaptable and enjoys a dynamic, rapidly changing working environment

High levels of collaboration to aid in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
