MUFG, a globally respected financial institution, is seeking an Operational Resilience Standards Lead to join their London-based team. This pivotal role offers you the opportunity to shape and maintain the standards that underpin operational resilience across MUFG’s EMEA operations, ensuring compliance with complex regulatory requirements such as FCA/PRA in the UK, DORA in the EU, and Middle Eastern frameworks. As part of a collaborative and knowledgeable team within the Operations division, you will be instrumental in safeguarding critical business services and supporting the organisation’s strategic objectives. With a focus on flexibility, professional growth, and meaningful impact, this position provides a unique platform for you to influence resilience practices at one of the world’s leading banks while enjoying a supportive environment that values your expertise and commitment.
What you'll do:
- Develop, embed, and manage the Operational Resilience framework, tools, and methodologies in alignment with evolving regulatory requirements to support MUFG’s strategic goals.
- Lead communications and training campaigns across all levels of the organisation to build awareness and understanding of operational resilience principles.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including Service Owners, Resource Owners, and Operational Resilience Coordinators to ensure effective delivery of resilience activities.
- Identify Important Business Services (IBS) and Critical & Important Functions (CIFs), creating and maintaining comprehensive service taxonomies and regularly updating service categories.
- Work closely with business areas to update IBS and CIF maps following trigger events or on a periodic basis, ensuring accurate documentation of processes, people, technology, data, and third-party dependencies.
- Establish robust processes for monitoring the resilience of IBS and CIFs by defining relevant metrics and coordinating assessments of critical resources supporting these functions.
- Set and review Impact Tolerances for each Important Business Service in collaboration with Service Owners, ensuring these are periodically updated or revised after significant events.
- Design and manage scenario testing programmes for all IBS and CIFs by developing a catalogue of ‘severe but plausible’ scenarios and facilitating workshops with relevant stakeholders.
- Define third-party risk management (TPRM) and technology resilience standards by setting minimum requirements for RTO/RPO, concentration risk thresholds, substitutability criteria, exit plans, and ICT resilience testing under DORA guidelines.
- Provide leadership to up to six direct reports within the Operational Resilience Team while promoting entity-neutral support for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.
What you bring:
- Demonstrable experience operating an Operational Resilience Framework within financial services institutions similar in scale or complexity to MUFG.
- Comprehensive understanding of EMEA-wide operational resilience regulatory requirements including those set by UK FCA/PRA authorities as well as DORA (EU) regulations.
- Proven track record in establishing operational resilience standards, methodologies, or frameworks that meet multi-jurisdictional compliance obligations.
- Experience line managing direct reports or leading small teams within an operational or risk management context is highly desirable.
- Previous involvement in regulatory change programmes or projects focused on enhancing business continuity or crisis management capabilities is advantageous.
- Strong project management skills enabling you to drive timely delivery of key activities while managing critical paths effectively under pressure.
- Ability to identify risks or issues promptly—escalating where necessary—and develop practical solutions for complex problems presented by evolving regulatory landscapes.
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability to advocate for operational resilience principles among senior stakeholders using persuasive yet inclusive approaches.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills allowing you to build collaborative relationships across diverse business areas while supporting internal customers effectively.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications coupled with meticulous attention to detail when handling large workloads or tight deadlines.
