Operational Resilience Lead - London Market Insurance experience a must

Reporting to the Head of Governance & Underwriting Standards

London based with Hybrid working - ave 2-3 days in the office per week

The Role:

This role is core to ensuring our operations are resilient and able to recover quickly when something unexpected happens, ensuring we remain able to look after our customers, the safety and soundness of the business, and our colleagues.

You will be responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of our Operational Resilience framework, carrying out regular reviews of our Important Business Services, Resources, and Impact Tolerances as well as performing regular and increasingly sophisticated scenario testing.

This is a collaborative role that will work across the London Market business unit and other areas of the Hiscox Group, including those business units utilising syndicate capacity to offer consumer facing products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the work to ensure that the Operational Resilience of the Hiscox Syndicate Limited legal entity meets the expectations of our regulators, the PRA and the FCA.
  • Work closely with our compliance team to ensure that the latest communications and expectations of the PRA and FCA are understood and incorporated within the Operational resilience of the business.
  • Ownership of the Operational Resilience framework for Hiscox Syndicates Ltd, leading development, maintenance and ensuring that Hiscox delivers on its Operational Resilience commitments to both our customers and the wider business.
  • Bi-annual review of important business services through stakeholder facilitation, responding to questions and queries, ensuring that we continue to correctly identify those services of most importance to our customers and to Hiscox.
  • Bi-annual review of impact tolerance metrics, intolerable harm definitions and related business rationale in liaison with Important Business Service Owners, Department Heads and Senior Management in alignment with evolving regulatory guidance.
  • Bi-annual review and maintenance of resource mapping information, aligning closely with the Important Business Service Owners, Procurement, Property Services, and IT.
  • Leading the planning and completion of scenario testing activity throughout an annual calendar cycle, helping to progressively mature testing across London Market and all relevant business units.
  • Ensuring lessons learnt are identified and recorded, and that appropriate remedial actions and vulnerabilities are followed through to completion.
  • Embedding Operational Resilience in third party contracts, liaising with Procurement and Vendor Management to understand the resilience of our most critical third parties and supporting in the remediation of any gaps.
  • Working with the Change, IT and Value Stream teams in completing Operational Resilience Impact Assessments to ensure resilience by design and embedding of standards.
  • Development of Operational Resilience KPIs and appropriate MI and control reports to alert management to any potential breaches to impact tolerances.
  • Annual review of training material to ensure this is fit for purpose and completed.
  • Production of Operational Resilience reporting for Committees and Boards as required, including attendance at these meetings where appropriate.
  • Participate in industry advisory groups i.e., LMA / Lloyd’s bodies in relation to Operational Resilience.

Our must haves:

  • Proven experience in an Operations Resilience role
  • Knowledge of FCA Operational Resilience regulations.
  • London Market / Syndicate experience a must
  • Experience working in a Risk and Control environment, good knowledge, and hands on experience of BCP and DR processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills considering different stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of general insurance products.
  • Ability to build professional relationships and work collaboratively across.
  • Ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to analyse data and root cause problem solve.
  • Able to identify risks/issues and respond appropriately.
  • Due diligence and attention to detail.
  • Able to act on initiative and make decisions.
