ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be a highly experienced commercial, customer focused and strategic leader with deep knowledge operating, merchandising and leading in an ECommerce environment.
You will lead and develop your Online Trading team across multiple Category Proposition Groups and Waitrose Directorates, influencing stakeholders to deliver the commercial performance of your area via the optimisation of on-site customer journeys and commercial proposition for maximum financial return and improved customer satisfaction.

  • Salary - £70,900.00 - 108,300.00  
  • Contract type - This position is a Permanent contract.

  • Working pattern/flexible working - The Partnership has adopted a hybrid working approach, meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The role requires c.2 days a week in Bracknell, flexing up and down on a week-to-week basis as the business and team require

  • Location - This role is based at our Bracknell Head Office. 

Key responsibilities 

  • Manage and run the day to day trading processes across Waitrose.com, Waitrose Cellar Waitrose Garden, Deliveroo and UberEats and lead the planning and execution of major Ecommerce trading events, ensuring smooth omnichannel experiences that enhance engagement and revenue.

  • Your team will ‘own’ how products and promotions show up across all of Waitrose online channels. Your team is responsible for converting site traffic to hit weekly sales budgets as well as influencing the strategic direction of our commercial offer by working across a plethora of senior stakeholders. Your knowledge of site performance data, customer insight and external benchmarks will ensure an optimal end-to-end online experience. 

  • You will actively participate in the Trading Leadership Team; ensure all Commercial teams understand ECommerce channel priorities, ensure online trading levers are effectively used to achieve commercial targets and work towards all Waitrose Partner’s “thinking Online”

  • Previous trading experience, deep knowledge of online performance tools and your analytical expertise will help you lead the team in providing insight to enable decision-making and prioritisation of growth initiatives across Commercial, Digital and Customer teams.

Essential skills/experience you’ll need 

  • Senior ECommerce and merchandising experience - understands how to influence conversion, traffic and AOV through multiple digital and trading functions. 

  • Highly numerate and strong data-analysis orientation. Comfortable with interpreting complex data from multiple sources to provide clear recommendations (including minimum of GA4)

  • Strong commercial acumen and an appreciation of the interdependencies across large organisations

  • Delivering growth in ecommerce 

  • Line management, leadership, people development and coaching

  • Presenting and working closely with senior stakeholders on managing and driving performance and levers/actions to improve in immediate and longer term

  • Experience of leadership in a fast moving and challenging organisational environment requiring constant reprioritisation and decision making


Desirable skills/experience you may have 

  • ECommerce experience within grocery retail

  • Experience working in a broad digital environment engaging and affecting other teams e.g. Product, Digital marketing, Customer, Retail Media

  • Influencing skills and a proven ability to build strong Stakeholder relationships

  • Experience with Tableau, ContentSquare and Dunhumby
