We are seeking highly motivated engineers who can provide specialist advice and technical leadership across their discipline, influencing combined OPEX of up to £6m per year. As an O&M Engineer, you will bring extensive experience in engineering practice, with strong knowledge of grid compliance and the management of highvoltage electrical transmission systems.
This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with ScottishPower and Iberdrola’s global network of technical experts. You’ll be empowered to deepdive into complex engineering topics, shape bestpractice approaches, and directly see the impact of your decisions on asset performance. The role also places significant emphasis on reliability improvement and digitalisation, supporting the organisation’s drive toward smarter, dataled operations.
What you’ll be doing
Working within the electrical transmission equipment team you will be leading/supporting in:
- Support the development of an industryleading Asset Management Framework, including the creation and implementation of plans, procedures, and processes.
- Provide technical support to the operational portfolio of renewable generation assets, carrying out rootcause analysis and developing/recommending solutions and strategies to improve asset availability and reliability.
- Manage and derisk operational interfaces with the Control Centre and the Transmission System Owner.
- Support site and backoffice activities to optimise outage strategies for maintenance and repair work (planned and unplanned).
- Offer expert operational technical support and guidance across a wide range of electrical assets, including Protection, PQ Analysis, Transformers, Shunt Reactors, GIS, AIS, VTs, CTs, STATCOMs, Filters, UPS, LV Boards, Fire Systems, and related equipment.
- Support the contracts team and site operations in the tendering, planning, and monitoring of maintenance activities. Provide input on bid levels, commercial strategies, and agreements relevant to projects.
- Lead the operational readiness of new wind farm assets, ensuring risks during the operational period are minimised and that site teams have all necessary information in place.
- Provide strategic advice, assessment, and recommendations across the full project life cycle—from development through to decommissioning.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure O&M activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality, following procedures, offshore standards, and industry best practice, while ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate designs from an operational perspective to ensure O&M requirements are correctly embedded. Assess various O&M solutions and associated risk profiles affecting technical integrity, asset performance, and other KPIs. Present options and mitigation recommendations to Lead Electrical O&M Engineers, Site and Department Managers, or external contractors to ensure costeffective, fully evaluated, and riskappropriate O&M solutions.
What You’ll Bring
You’ll have a strong understanding of the full project lifecycle, from design through to operations, with the ability to navigate technical boundaries and interface points across onshore and offshore windfarm substations. Asset Management qualifications such as the IAM Certificate are beneficial.
You’ll bring proven experience in one or more of the following areas: O&G, marine, HV electrical design, operations, HV safety, or O&M delivery within the wind sector. You’ll have a track record of resolving complex technical issues, from grid code compliance challenges to leading rootcause analyses for component failures.
Problemsolving and structured thinking will be key strengths. You’ll be confident making decisions, assessing risks, and providing clear leadership on the technical implications and feasibility of proposed solutions.
Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential. You’ll work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and senior stakeholders to deliver clear technical summaries, gather specialist input, and ensure that scopes of work and contracts are technically robust while minimising cost and risk.
This role also requires travel for meetings and site visits, so flexibility and a willingness to travel are important.
