Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking a London-based assistant editor to support our flagship newsletter, The 7, and additional morning newsletters across The Post’s portfolio.

This collaborative role requires someone who is precise, organized and communicative. We want a well-rounded journalist with excellent news judgment who has demonstrated an ability to identify the top stories of the day and to summarize key ideas in a reader-friendly format. The ideal candidate will have sharp editing skills and a passion for understanding audiences. The editor who fills this position will work on The Post’s most widely read newsletter products and will play an essential role in building reader habits and reaching new audiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit, curate and help shape the direction of our morning newsletters, in collaboration with other editors and writers.

  • Deliver constructive feedback under tight deadlines.

  • Analyze audience data and communicate actionable insights to writers and editors.

  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to extend the reach of newsletters and The 7 brand.

Preferred Qualitifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a deadline-driven news environment.

  • Experience editing journalism for newsletter audiences.

  • Experience innovating with email as a platform and a strong knowledge of best practices.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work in a constantly changing environment.

  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.

This position may require early morning or night work and shifts on holidays or weekends. This role is based in London and will be hired through our U.K. entity, TWP International LLC; work authorization in the United Kingdom is required.

Interested candidates should upload a resume and cover letter outlining the experience they’d bring to the role to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by Apr. 9 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to The 7 Editor John Taylor and Newsletters Director Elizabeth Whitmire.

The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.

The innovation doesn’t end in the Newsroom – dozens of teams power The Washington Post.  We are now hiring the next innovator – how will you Impact Tomorrow?
