About the Team

The Network Forecasting Team are responsible for providing network traffic forecasts across all layers of the PXC network from approximately 3000 exchanges through the various core network layers to partner interconnects for cache, peering & transit. Ensuring these are regularly provided to agreed timescales and standards to allow equipment orders and delivery of additional capacity to be in place when needed, ready to meet the bandwidth demands of our customers.
The team is also responsible for reporting on traffic utilisation and modelling what if scenarios to ensure the network remains congestion free even in the event of a network fault.

About The Role

The Network Forecasting Analyst’s role is to forecast the traffic and needed capacity of our network in a way that Engineering teams will be able to size the network layers at the right time to the right dimension to handle the bandwidth demand of our customers in the most efficient manner. The forecasts will be used to plan network CAPEX, equipment orders and delivery, whilst preventing unnecessary spending.
The Network Forecasting Analyst is also responsible for reporting on traffic utilisation and modelling what if scenarios to ensure the network remains congestion free even in the event of a network fault. 

As Network Forecasting Analyst you’ll be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain, adapt & own the traffic forecast models for various layers of the network. This will involve liaising with engineering teams & teams across the business to understand rollout, network build & commercial plans for the business, bringing each of these data feeds into a central model.
  • Summarise & communicate the output of forecasts to stakeholders across the business, from senior managers to team members.
  • Identification of capacity risks & issues, raised through monitoring & forecasting. Highlight and work with other engineering teams to ensure risks are managed and mitigated in a timely manner.
  • Modelling capacity scenarios for the network as required to assess capacity impacts of proposed changes, new network designs, network resilience, network failure and other what if scenarios.
  • Produce weekly reports on utilisation levels within various layers of the network and flag up concerns to relevant teams.
  • Staying up to date about the existing and future network structure as well as the traffic flow to be able to deliver useful outputs.
  • Supporting colleagues within Networks in checking future network designs in their ability to handle the forecast traffic.

Essential Skills Required:

  • Experience of coding in Python
  • Advanced User of Excel
  • Ability to write SQL queries
  • Good numerical skills
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Be able to communicate effectively and adapt communication techniques to the audience

Desirable Skill Required:

  • Power BI skills
  • Data Warehouse Experience
  • Understanding of IP Networks
