Support the Chief Engineer with engine room watchkeeping, routine inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, lubrication, bunkering, spare parts control, recordkeeping, and emergency response to keep vessel machinery safe and operational.
The Motorman/Oiler is responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer in the safe operation, maintenance and repair of the vessel's machinery and engineering systems. The role includes engine room watchkeeping, routine maintenance activities and ensuring that machinery spaces are maintained in a safe and operational condition .
Key Responsibilities - Assist the Chief Engineer with the operation and maintenance of all machinery and engineering systems.
- Carry out routine inspections of machinery and engine room equipment.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance as directed by the Chief Engineer.
- Monitor and record machinery operating parameters and report defects or abnormalities.
- Maintain engine room cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
- Assist with bunkering and fuel transfer operations.
- Maintain lubrication systems and ensure machinery is adequately serviced.
- Assist with spare parts inventory and stock control.
- Participate in emergency drills and emergency response activities.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and maritime regulations
RequirementsMinimum Requirements
- Engine Rating Certificate or Rating Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (RFPEW) certification in accordance with STCW Reg. III/4 preferred.
- Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates.
- Security Awareness certification (STCW A-VI/6-1).
- Valid medical certificate and seafarer's book.
- Good English communication skills.
- Minimum 2 years' experience as a Motorman, Oiler or Engine Rating onboard commercial vessels.
- Previous experience onboard tug vessels, harbour craft, pilot boats or offshore support vessels preferred.
- Experience with diesel propulsion systems preferred.
- Experience supporting maintenance of auxiliary machinery and engine room systems would be advantageous.
- Experience with ASD tug propulsion systems would be an advantage.
