The Opportunity 

Due to an internal move, we have an opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to join our Commercial Motor team in London.

This post focuses on new and existing business across a broad range of clients. This broker facing, customer focused role provides a brilliant opportunity to truly develop the portfolio and build out new business opportunities across our London and SE region portfolio’s.

With exposure across complex, technical risks we empower our Underwriters to use their subject matter expertise and experience.

Your new role

  • Underwrite insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence
  • Develop relationships in line with the Business Plan to support the achievement of business objectives
  • Understand and comply with QBE reinsurance strategy to minimise risk and deliver business plan objectives
  • Participate fully and use your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice
  • Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage
  • Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately

Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role.  QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.

About you

  • Underwriting Expertise: Proven experience in Motor underwriting within the insurance industry.
  • Commercial Insight: Strong understanding of profit drivers and strategic decision-making to support long-term growth.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and underwriting tools, with the ability to analyse data and modelled results.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid grasp of legal, regulatory, and risk profiling requirements.
  • Influential Leadership: Ability to lead by example, influence others, and negotiate effectively.
  • Organisational Strength: Excellent prioritisation, interpersonal, and programme design skills.
