Mobile Engineer (React Native)

Our Mission

We’re not your average benefits platform we’re the driving force that uplifts people’s lives. Our technology connects the entire benefits ecosystem, creating better outcomes for employers, employees, brokers, and providers.

Our mission is clear: to build a world where everything works at its best, ensuring every employee gets the support they need to thrive both at work and beyond.

Your Mission

As a Mobile Engineer at Ben, your mission is to solve real problems for the people using Ben by creating polished, intuitive, and reliable experiences on both our mobile and web platforms. You'll focus on what happens when someone taps a button, how our app feels to use, and how we deliver a seamless experience across all devices.

You will:

Build features that matter: You'll work on the core of the Ben user experience for our mobile apps and contribute to our web platform. Scope it, build it, ship it. You're involved from "here's the problem" through to "it's live and people are using it."

Have a real say in what we build: PMs don't have a monopoly on good ideas. You'll help shape the user experience, suggest improvements, and push back when something feels off from a user's perspective.

Make technical decisions: How should this component be built to work on both iOS and Android? What's the right way to manage state for this new feature? How do we ensure our app is performant and responsive? You'll tackle these questions and help set the standard for our mobile and frontend development.

Think about the whole picture: Our mobile and web experiences are deeply connected. When you build a feature, you'll think about how it fits into the entire user journey. How do we ensure consistency between mobile and web? How does this new mobile feature interact with our existing platform?

Things you will be working on…
  • Build and ship product features for our iOS and Android applications using React Native and Expo.

  • Work closely with product managers to understand user context and shape mobile-first solutions.

  • Collaborate with designers to deliver polished, intuitive, and delightful user experiences.

  • Manage and improve our build and deployment processes using Expo Application Services (EAS).

  • Contribute to our web frontend application using React, helping us maintain a consistent experience across platforms.

  • Own work from idea to the App Store/Play Store and care about the impact once it’s live.

  • Improve developer experience, tooling, and standards within our mobile and frontend teams.

  • Ensure that security considerations are taken into account, based on current industry-accepted practices.

You will thrive in this role if you…
  • Have solid experience building and shipping mobile applications using React Native.

  • Native mobile development experience (Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java).

  • Are familiar with the Expo ecosystem, including using EAS to build and submit apps.

  • Care about solving real user problems, not just closing tickets.

  • Can collaborate with PMs and designers without waiting to be told every detail.

  • Enjoy figuring out the how with autonomy, and the why with curiosity.

  • Are pragmatic: you know when to ship fast and when to invest in quality.

  • Communicate clearly and enjoy working with friendly & ambitious people.

You will not love this role if you….
  • Need a slow pace to feel comfortable - we move fast, and we prioritise action, even when the path isn’t perfectly clear

  • Are uncomfortable being accountable for outcomes - this role involves owning projects end-to-end and being responsible for making them succeed and delivering them at a high quality

  • Prefer maintaining the status quo - we want to challenge assumptions and push for better ways of working

  • Prefer a highly structured environment with established processes and clearly defined boundaries - we’re still building, and sometimes that means creating the path as we go

  • Struggle with ambiguity or expect prescriptive direction - you’ll get support and context, but you’ll need to figure things out and take ownership

  • Wait for others to step up, or to be told what to do - We are a high-performance and high-reward work place and are looking for people who are proactive

Not sure if you meet 100% of the requirements?

That’s okay - we know that not everyone follows a linear career path, and we value diverse perspectives and growth mindsets. If you have a solid technical foundation and a strong interest in full stack engineering, we’d still love to hear from you. That said, this role does require hands-on experience, so please only apply if you feel confident you can contribute meaningfully from day one.

Our Compensation & Benefits

It’s important to us to practise what we preach when it comes to our benefits. We know what good looks like and we want to provide the best for our team, with a comprehensive and inclusive benefits package. This means you have a choice over the things that are most important to you.
