At JetBrains, code is our passion. Ever since we started, back in 2000, we have strived to make the most effective developer tools on earth. By automating routine checks and corrections, our tools speed up production, freeing developers to grow, discover, and create.

The JetBrains Research team explores ways to use machine learning (ML) techniques and agentic approaches to help developers and enhance software development processes. Our work aims to improve the state of ML for code by turning the latest academic advances into practical applications.

We are currently looking for a Senior ML Researcher to join the team and strengthen our expertise in tuning LLMs for agentic tasks. Our primary goal is to make AI agents available on users’ machines. You will have the opportunity to conduct a cutting-edge research project that is both exciting and has practical applications.

In this role, you will:
  • Train LLMs for software engineering agents.
  • Search for possible improvements that can be made to the training procedure.
  • Plan and design experiments to confirm your hypotheses.
  • Mentor junior colleagues.
We’ll be happy to have you on our team if you:
  • Have at least 4 years of ML experience with at least 1.5 years of experience training LLMs.
  • Are able to deliver a talk and write in clean and concise English.
  • Have strong skills in the Python-PyTorch-Transformers stack, with knowledge of advanced packages being a plus.
  • Have a track record of working with either open-source projects or delivering code in production environments, demonstrating your ability to write and collaborate on clean, understandable code.
  • Can perform research driven by curiosity and have some experience with organizing personal research projects or research groups.
We’ll be especially thrilled if you have:
  • A track record of publications presented at top-tier ML conferences.
  • Practical experience working with AI agents or LLMs for software engineering tasks.
