About the team/division

The role sits within the London Market MI team which is part of the broader Data Services function. The MI team vision is to empower business decisions through meaningful insight.

The MI Team is the centre of excellence for reporting across the Business Unit. The team supports numerous functions across London Market and the broader Hiscox Group. The successful candidate will be working predominantly across the four Hiscox London Market divisions: Property, Crisis Management, Casualty and Marine, Energy & Recall. The successful candidate will also be working closely with multiple functions such as any operational or change functions to provide analytical support and insight.

The Role

The London Market MI team is looking for someone to lead the team and support the evolution of the team. The successful candidate will be integral in the evolution and implementation of the longer term vision for MI across London Market. The candidate will lead a team of 3 individuals, providing Tableau expertise and also be required to step-in to provide trusted, analytical insights on the London Market business, with outcomes deliverable to senior stakeholders. This will be integral towards helping the business unit hit the business plan, meaning we are looking for someone who can be seen as a trusted business partner.

The role provides a fantastic opportunity to drive the success of the MI team and in shaping how MI works within London Market. The successful candidate will help drive forward improved ways of working and ensure the team are not long positioned to handle the requests of today but also the potential MI requests of the future. The overall aim is to define consistent reporting standards across all lines of business to ensure that there is transparency on each team’s performance. The candidate will be responsible for managing and planning the team’s day to day, managing capacity and communicating expected timeliness to senior management. They will also be required to roll up their sleeves to support the team when volumes are high whilst also championing MI across London Market and focussing on improving ways of working to remove blockers for the team supporting the overarching mantra of maintaining focus on the material items to the London Market P&L.

What you’ll be doing in the role

  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team of Insights Analysts, supporting the team in its next stage of evolution
  • Responsible for managing the delivery of a centralised model for how MI is requested and consumed, including allocating tasks and managing workload distribution
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining MI reporting strategies aligned with business goals
  • Overseeing the creation of dashboards, reports and performance metrics – performing technical assistance and peer reviews where required
  • Working closely with business teams to ensure the team is operating as functionally as possible to design & build a suite of relevant, value add reports, ensuring MI is built to support LM strategic objectives
  • Work with senior stakeholders to ensure MI is answering the key questions to drive business performance
  • Identifying opportunities to improve ways of working and drive efficiencies within MI reporting frameworks
  • Build great relationships with MI customers within the business
  • Technical expert within the team
  • Support the other Insights Analyst with queries and fostering a team sharing environment
  • Using own initiative to determine higher priority items for the team
  • Shifting the team from reactive to proactive insights
  • Comfortable using different reporting tools such as (Tableau, SQL, Snowflake) and knowing when best to deploy each.

The Candidate

  • Excellent leadership, coaching and team management skills
  • Strong Tableau/PowerBI knowledge to support the team with technical queries
  • Comfortable managing numerous senior stakeholders
  • Comfortable continuously reprioritising and pushing back where appropriate
  • High attention to detail, hitting deadlines and an appreciation of business priorities
  • Able to articulate complex analysis to non-technical audience
  • Ability to develop rapport, adapt style and be flexible in order to build relationships
  • Help fosters a strong team culture

Our must haves

  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing teams
  • Good analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Prior experience managing a team of Tableau and PowerBI SMEs/Analysts
  • Knowledge of insurance/insurance background
  • Experience with Tableau and SQL
  • Advanced Microsoft skills, primarily Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient with technical language (e.g. R/SQL/VBA/Python)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing and prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of London Market insurance specifically
  • Experience working with data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake etc.)
  • Working towards obtaining ACII or equivalent
