Role Overview:

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technical Author to join Formula 1's Mechanical Engineering & Design team. Reporting into our Head of Mechanical Engineering & Design, this role will support the Mechanical Engineering team deliver technical documents, reporting and governance activities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, author and maintain high-quality mechanical engineering technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, work instructions, test procedures and release documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, designers and cross-functional teams to gather technical information and translate complex engineering content into clear, accurate documents.
  • Manage document control activities, ensuring version accuracy, traceability, change records and compliance with internal standards and approval workflows.
  • Support engineering governance by preparing documentation packs, status reports and evidence required for design reviews, audits and project milestones.
  • Review and update legacy documents to reflect engineering changes, lessons learned and continuous improvement in methods, templates and standards.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, quality and supply chain teams to ensure documentation supports build, inspection and validation activities.
  • Maintain document registers and reporting trackers to monitor progress, actions and deliverables across multiple engineering workstreams.
  • Ensure all documentation is produced to a high professional standard, with attention to technical accuracy, consistency, confidentiality and deadline adherence.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:

  • Masters qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:

  • Supporting technical documents in an engineering environment
  • Working with reports, procedures or controlled records
  • Contributing to review packs, trackers or governance activities
  • Using revision control and approval workflows

Knowledge & Skills

Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:

  • Excellent numeracy and analytical skills
  • Strong communication across engineering teams (written and verbal)
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Clear technical writing and document structuring
  • Strong attention to detail and document control discipline
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and status reporting
  • CEng Registered with IMechE or IED
  • Knowledge of PTC CREO & Windchill/PDMLink
