Job Description
Machina Labs is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team and contribute to the development of innovative robotic systems for sheet metal forming. In this role, you will design, develop, and enhance mechanical systems, components, and products, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and high-performing solutions.
You will collaborate closely with sales, design, and account management teams to create innovative concepts and efficient solutions while maintaining strong communication with vendors to ensure technical requirements are met. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & Development: Design and develop mechanical systems and components using CAD software. Create detailed models, drawings, and specifications, ensuring material selection, tolerances, functionality, and safety meet design standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Generate technical documentation, reports, and specifications to communicate design details, project progress, and test results. Maintain accurate records of design changes and modifications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with project teams to contribute to planning, set goals, and manage timelines and resources. Foster effective communication across teams to ensure project success.

Qualifications

  • Experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in a relevant industry.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Experience with sheet metal and welded structure design.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and tolerance analysis.
  • Familiarity with machining, milling, and turning processes.
  • Experience using change management systems such as SolidWorks PDM and PLM.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and validating mechanical systems and components.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with robotics.
  • Familiarity with electrical system design, wiring, harnessing, and electrical enclosures.
  • Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) simulation using SolidWorks Simulation.
