About Run Fast Racing

Run Fast Racing is a horse racing stable and membership group that gives people an ownership experience in thoroughbred racing: race-day access, barn visits, prizes paid direct to members' bank accounts when our horses win, and a community of members who follow our horses together. Our horses are trained by two-time Kentucky Derby winner Doug O'Neill, and we host members at Santa Anita, Del Mar and Los Alamitos. RFR is co-owned by major A-list celebrities.

We've been live for six months, and our underdog horse Listenupshance just ran in the Breeders' Cup. Now we're expanding into new markets. We're a small team with a strong product, but our marketing hasn't caught up yet. That's what this role is for.

The role

You'll build RFR's marketing engine and own our voice everywhere. Social media is the heart of it, but we're looking for a well-rounded approach: online and offline, national and local. Many people live minutes from a racetrack and have never been. We want you thinking about how to reach them. You figure out what to make, direct the videographers and editors who make it, and get it in front of the right audience. Your north star is new paying members.

This is a hands-on creative role: you're in the work every week, not managing from a distance. You report to our CEO.

We're a startup, so this takes grit: you'll build a lot from scratch, move fast and wear many hats. It's also one of the most important jobs at RFR. Success here comes with real room to grow, in both responsibility and pay, as the company grows.

What you'll do

  • Strategy and brand voice. Define RFR's brand tone and voice, and build an intentional marketing plan across online and offline channels: what we'll market, how, and what we expect to learn as we open new markets. Find creative ways to reach new audiences, through partners, creators, affiliates, clipping, or ideas we haven't thought of, and keep what actually brings in members.
  • Content planning. Plan a mix of race-related content tied to the racing calendar and evergreen content, including a few recurring series that people come back for. Many of our members are 55 and older, so the plan has to reach both longtime racing fans and younger people new to the sport.
  • Content production. Collaborate with our videographers on planning what to shoot, and make sure we have the video and stills we need. Review their work and give clear feedback so that what reaches our CEO is close to final; over time, you'll know our style well enough to approve most content yourself. Our videographers cover race days; you're based in New York and not expected to travel to every race, but you can jump in and make or edit content yourself when it helps.
  • Social media and community management. Manage our social platforms day to day: posting, replying to comments and messages, and building an engaged community around our horses.
  • Paid ads. Work side by side with our paid media partner. Together you shape the marketing plan; you lead on messages and creative, they lead on targeting, campaigns and budgets. You learn from the results together and decide what to try next.
  • On-track promotion. Plan how we reach fans at and around the tracks and turn them into members, and work with our local teams who carry it out. Tens of thousands of fans show up for big days like opening day at Santa Anita.
  • Hire and manage. Recruit and manage freelance shooters, editors and creators, and lead the local marketing coordinators we add in each new market.

Your first 90 days

We'll agree on clear goals for your first 90 days before you start. They'll likely look like this:

  1. Learn the business and who our members are, audit what RFR has posted so far, and study what competitors and racing creators are doing.
  2. From week one, keep our channels posting on a steady schedule while the plan comes together.
  3. By day 30, present a first marketing plan, refined by day 60: what we'll market, where, how we'll measure it, and what we'll try first. It should cover our brand voice, a few recurring content series, and the modern tactics you think are worth trying, such as creators, affiliates and clipping. We want you to guide us here.
  4. Put the plan into action: test, learn what works, and scale it.

Who you are

  • You have four to seven years of marketing experience, and you're a strategic marketer first. You've built a marketing plan yourself, deciding what to say, where to say it and why, and you can show what it achieved.
  • You can shoot and edit good content yourself, and your portfolio proves it.
  • You've set the direction for a brand's social channels and grown them, not just kept them running.
  • You've directed freelancers or a small content team and given them sharp creative feedback.
  • You know short-form video on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts from the inside, and you also know how to reach an older audience on Facebook, through email, or however works best.
  • You care whether content brings in customers, and you track it.
  • You can travel to some race days and weekends. We expect and encourage you to attend races to get a real feel for the experience.

Nice to have: experience in sports, entertainment or subscription brands, or with creator and affiliate programs.

Compensation

$100,000 to $120,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus a performance bonus of up to $50,000 a year tied to audience growth, signups from social, and new paying members. Health insurance included.

How to apply

Send your résumé, plus:

  • A marketing plan or strategy you built. A redacted version or a one-page summary is fine if the original is confidential.
  • Three to five pieces of content you made or led. For each one, tell us the thinking behind it and what it did: views, followers gained, sales, whatever you tracked.

Links to channels you've grown are a plus.

Our process: a first interview with our team, then a short, paid project that finalists present to our CEO.
