Lead Gridcog’s global marketing strategy, positioning, messaging, brand, website, campaigns, and demand generation. Manage a small marketing team while remaining hands-on with content, campaigns, editing, and execution. Expand the company’s established UK and Australian brand into Europe, align marketing with sales targets, own performance and budget, and improve qualified lead and pipeline generation through data-driven experimentation and AI-enabled workflows.

At Gridcog, we're on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We're a SaaS start-up of energy nerds building the best project modelling software around, used on everything from co-located solar and storage to data centres and microgrids. Our clients, many of the world's leading Developers, IPPs, Consultants and Energy Majors, are putting hundreds of millions into the transition, and we help them direct that money into the right projects: the ones that make both commercial and environmental sense.
We're a team of 40 across London, Berlin, Madrid and Australia, and we've recently raised our Series A.

The role:

We're looking for a Marketing Lead to join our team. Maybe you've been the number 2 to a strong marketing leader, or owned parts of the function, and now you're ready to step up and lead marketing as a whole. Either way, you're a brilliant marketer who still loves doing the work.

You won't be building from scratch. We've built a strong brand in the UK and Australia through thought leadership, and you'll lead a small team consisting of our Marketing Manager - Content & Events (plus their two Brand & Content Executives) and our Growth Marketing Manager. Your job is to take what we've built and make it bigger, bolder and more commercial as we scale across Europe.
A big part of that is setting the marketing strategy, sharpening our positioning, and turning it into clear, compelling messaging. Our product is technical and strongly differentiated, but we haven't yet articulated those differences clearly enough, or why they matter. We're looking for a strategic marketer who can sharpen that story for our users, economic buyers, and the wider team.

Energy marketing tends to be boring but that's not us, and it's not our vision. We don't want the playbook you ran at your last company; we're looking for someone who'll try something different. But this freedom also comes with accountability - you'll own marketing's results, from qualified leads to the pipeline sales close. You’ll take risks, measure everything, and change course fast when something isn't working.

How the role works:
This is a player-coach role. Expect to spend a large portion of your time doing the work yourself: writing, briefing, editing, building campaigns and shipping, alongside developing your team and setting direction. We do things in-house rather than through agencies, including our messaging, which needs to evolve as fast as our product and customer base, and we use AI to punch above our weight.
You'll report to our CCO, who will back you, coach you and expect you to challenge them and the wider Exec team, with the judgement to know when to push and when to commit.
We also work together in our London hub three days a week.

What you'll do:

  • Own Gridcog's global marketing strategy, plan, budget and performance, spanning positioning and brand through to demand generation, with clear accountability for marketing's contribution to commercial growth.
  • Own brand, positioning and messaging: sharpen how Gridcog is positioned, articulate what makes us different and valuable, build clear messages for users and economic buyers, and ensure the whole company tells a consistent story.
  • Make our brand distinctive and consistent. We're not looking for a visual rebrand, but we do want to tighten how our existing identity and guidelines are applied across everything we produce.
  • Take the brand we've built in the UK and Australia into Europe, working with our commercial teams in Berlin and Madrid.
  • Make our website a stronger expression of our positioning and a more impactful marketing and lead generation engine.
  • Support your team to make our content, events, thought leadership and growth marketing activities sharper and more commercial, using our data, modelling and customer logos to make the case.
  • Work closely with sales to align campaigns, events and content with target accounts and revenue targets.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you'll have:

  • Solid B2B marketing experience, ideally in early-stage SaaS, including time as a senior manager or number 2 where you owned major parts of the function, or standout results in an agency environment.
  • A real passion for strategy and messaging, with the skill to back it up. You know how to dig into technical material, find what actually matters to the customer, and turn it into a clear value message that lands. You've done this for a complex product before, for audiences ranging from hands-on users to senior decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated success building lead generation that sales teams actually value.
  • A commercial mindset: you know your numbers inside out, and you use them to decide what to double down on and what to drop.
  • Multi-channel experience and an appetite for trialling new things. You take smart risks: when something doesn't land, you learn from it and adapt.
  • Excellent creative judgement and the ability to turn complex ideas into bold, credible marketing. We'd love to see examples!
  • Some experience managing people, and a real interest in developing a high performing team.
  • An AI-native way of working: you use AI tools every day to do more with less, and you know when to override them.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience in energy marketing or another complex technical domain.
  • Experience counter-positioning against a varied competitor set including larger or more established competitors.
  • Experience owning a martech stack (CRM, analytics, data).
  • Fluency in a second European language.

Benefits
  • Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and skills, plus equity: everyone at Gridcog gets a stake in the company.
  • Opportunity to work as part of our social London, Berlin or Madrid based teams with flexible working arrangements.
  • Be part of a high-performing team that values innovation and creative problem-solving.
  • Contribute to the decarbonisation of the world's energy system.
  • Support for ongoing professional and personal development.
  • An annual all company retreat; our previous retreats were in Bali and Bintan Island.

Diversity and Inclusion:
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team at Gridcog and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you're excited about this role but your experience doesn't line up perfectly with every requirement, especially if this would be your first time leading a function, apply anyway. You might be exactly who we're looking for!
