Market Risk Lead – S&T Risk Management & Control

Job Description

Objective

WKC is seeking a highly motivated Market Risk professional to become part of the Supply and Trading Risk Management & Control team, part of the broader Finance organization at WKC. The management of Market Risk is a key priority for the organization and is vital to the successful delivery of the S&T group’s strategy.  The expectation of the role is to effectively work with different stakeholders across the business to embed a risk management culture throughout the organization while promoting a market risk governance framework. The market risk team serves two core functions in advisory and control and is expected to be comfortable in performing both in an independent and collaborative manner.  

Main Responsibilities

The candidate’s job will be to identify, understand, measure, analyze, and mitigate market risks stemming from various supply & trading activity across the globe. This is an individual contributor position but should be able to collaborate with and influence broader teams. While the below outlines the primary tasks/responsibilities the candidate should maintain flexibility as business needs warrant:

  • Liaise regularly with Supply & Trading in the implementation, awareness, and compliance of risk controls and ensure that issues identified (e.g., limit breach, trading outside of DOAs) are addressed/escalated in a timely manner.
  • Independently be able to validate and assess charges for key market risks in order to approve new deals and/or provide support/analytics to supply & trading in taking on risk. 
  • Risk Assessment: Identifying, assessing, and quantifying the various risks embedded in Supply & Trading in an appropriate manner.
  • Risk Monitoring: Continuously monitoring the supply & trading portfolio and associated exposures to stay up to date on the risks and ensure they remain within acceptable limits.
  • Risk Reporting: Providing regular and ad-hoc reports to senior management highlighting key risk metrics, emerging risks, and compliance with risk policies.  
  • Support the Senior Director of Market Risk in the performance of their responsibilities.
  • Helping to organize and prioritize market risk related projects and initiatives.

Education and Experience Requirements

Candidates for the position should possess the following:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, accounting, mathematics, or other business related major.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a commodities/energy market risk & control function – in particular experience with European Power & Gas markets and products
  • In-depth understanding of the energy industry, commodity trading, risk analysis, and financial markets and products.
  • Experience dealing with risk management governance processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and data presentation skills, independent problem-solving skills, and ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and willingness to get involved and take responsibility for area covered.
  • Energetic, independent, with aptitude to learn and improve processes.
  • Strong team player who can interact and work well with peers, senior managers, front office, and other control functions.

The following items aren’t prerequisites for the candidate but would be considered desirable:

  • Graduate degree in a business related or quantitative discipline.
  • Proficiency in VBA, SQL, R, and/or Python
  • Experience with Sustainability products.
  • Experience with TriplePoint and/or BRADY ETRM systems.
