The Role:
The Market Pricing Manager will lead a team of analysts to optimise price competitiveness, profitability, and growth through advanced use of market data, price comparison website insights, and internal pricing models. The role will drive innovation in how we use external and internal data sources, ensuring we continually identify new opportunities and respond effectively to market movements.
Key Accountabilities:
Market Pricing & Insight
Creating and adapting tools that identify new pricing opportunities using market data and PCW insights.
Squeezing more value out of existing market insight datasets through enhanced analytics, alternative price predictions, and smarter tooling.
Ownership of PCW data requirements - working with internal and external partners to ensure data quality, coverage, and usefulness, while proactively pursuing improvements.
Pricing Model Development & Strategy
Critically reviewing market models, ensuring rigour and relevance for application in the wider pricing teams.
Determining optimal strategies for combining market models to strengthen competitiveness.
Identifying customer segments where prices can be improved to capture market share or increase profitability.
Tools, Governance & Innovation
Creating and maintaining automated tools that surface new pricing/ footprint leads and opportunities.
Ensuring appropriate governance of market tools and models, including documentation, code control, and second-line review.
Driving innovation through the integration of new data sources, improved analytical techniques, and experimentation with new methodologies.
Cross-functional Collaboration
Working closely with Retail and Underwriting teams to align on pricing strategy.
Taking ownership of customer/market segment analysis, including stewardship of clustering algorithms used across the business.
People Leadership
Prioritising team workload to deliver against key performance, growth, and competitiveness targets.
Supporting team members through coaching, development planning, and peer reviews.
Creating an inclusive, collaborative, curious, and high performing team culture.
Customer Outcomes
Ensuring pricing decisions and market actions meet fair customer outcomes and align with regulatory expectations.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong general insurance knowledge, particularly personal lines pricing and market dynamics.
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem solving skills with experience working with statistical or market data.
Strong coding ability (Python preferred; experience in other languages also valuable).
Experience working with market models, PCW data, and/or competitive insight tools beneficial.
Curious, inquisitive mindset with a passion for identifying opportunities and driving measurable change.
Ability to think creatively and challenge existing approaches constructively.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate complex topics clearly to varied audiences.
Collaborative working style with confidence to offer views, challenge constructively, and influence decision making.
Enthusiastic, proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement.
