You’ll work in an open, friendly environment where knowledge is shared, creativity is encouraged, and every team member plays a vital role. Collaborating with automation, mechanical, and project engineers, you’ll help deliver safe, efficient, and compliant electrical systems that support the next generation of low-emission vessels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and review electrical and control systems for Rotor Sails including power distribution, electro-mechanical control, automation, and instrumentation.
  • Specify and integrate  PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and associated Interfaces for our Rotor Sail products.
  • Develop instrumentation, measurement and data acquisition systems including ship to shore communications.
  • Prepare technical documentation including wiring diagrams, bills of materials, cable schedules, load calculations, commissioning and testing procedures, operational and maintenance manuals.
  • Develop and enhance functionality of our Control system to improve performance of the Rotor Sails and integrate the equipment onto new vessel types.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant marine classification societies (e.g., DNV, ABS, Lloyd’s Register) and IEC standards and assist with obtaining product approvals from those classification societies.
  • Support procurement and production by preparing technical specifications and evaluating vendor proposals.
  • Support the installation of our Rotor Sails onto vessels including integration design with the vessel electrical and control systems.
  • Provide remote or on-site technical support during commissioning, testing, sea trials and operational handover.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or other relevant qualifications in Electrical/Control Engineering.
  • Proven experience in marine electrical systems development, design, integration and commissioning.
  • Proven PLC Coding experience (ideally Siemens TIA Portal)
  • Familiarity with shipboard power management systems, switchboards, diesel generators and shaft generators.
  • Good working knowledge of PLC Systems and VFDs and associated hardware.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience with programming languages such as Python and C#.
  • Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN).
  • Knowledge of marine regulations and standards including Class rule requirements for design approval and plan approval.
  • Willingness to travel for shipboard inspections, commissioning, and trials.
  • Experience communicating with ship staff to troubleshoot systems.
  • Experience working with shipyards on refit and new builds.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Hazardous Area Equipment and Installations: CompEx certification (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.

Personal Qualities and Competences:

  • Clear written and spoken English
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including adapting to the audience
  • Co-operative approach
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Creative/innovative approach
  • High attention to detail and thorough approach
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic “start-up” environment
