An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join the team.

In this role, you will lead the Manufacturing Engineering activity within a plant, facility or, where applicable, supply chain team. You will act as Technical Authority, assuring the initial and continuing capability of the method of production to produce product conforming to design definition, and ensuring the resolution of technical issues, problems and arisings to meet business and customer requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time (SQCD).

You will also integrate Manufacturing Engineering activities across the product lifecycle and through the supply chain, ensuring manufacturing capability, technical governance and continuous improvement are effectively deployed.

What you will be doing:

• Ensuring all manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture deployed within the area of accountability are in full compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
• Managing, developing and maintaining effective relationships across the internal and external supply chain, ensuring requirements are understood and maximised, and providing coaching where required to deliver successful outcomes in line with Rolls-Royce requirements and commitments.
• Operating as an active member of the global Manufacturing Engineering leadership team, proactively supporting cross-Business collaboration, knowledge sharing, skills and process development to make best use of available resources and deliver business needs and priorities.
• Leading the technical input into facility or supply chain strategy, including ensuring Commodity and Manufacturing Process strategy implications are reflected in relevant capital plans.
• Integrating Manufacturing Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Product Introduction activities within the business.
• Maintaining and/or governing Production Technical Packages, including technical instructions, programmes and tooling, which clearly define the manufacturing process.
• Ensuring manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the business and supply chain are capable of meeting and continuing to meet requirements for quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time.
• Coordinating technical support to operations and suppliers so that problems and arisings are resolved in a structured and timely manner.
• Buying off the production readiness of new manufacturing capabilities or methods of manufacture.
• Developing numerate, real-time methods for capturing process capability and ensuring this information is available and acted upon within the facility, supply chain and new product design.
• Acting as professional leader of the Manufacturing Engineering community within the area of accountability, ensuring the required skills and behaviours are in place and promoting the development and growth of the community.
• Driving accountability and enablement through engagement and coaching so that team members can be at their best.
• Working with Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders, Manufacturing Process Owners and, where applicable, suppliers to drive manufacturing processes towards identified consistent best practice.
• Deploying mechanisms to govern the achievement of Manufacturing Engineering deliverables, reporting status and ensuring issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales.
• Managing Manufacturing Engineering load/capacity plans and budgets.
• Ensuring product safety risks are understood and mitigated to meet required safety levels and reduce risk so far as is reasonably practicable.
• Championing product safety and promoting a strong product safety culture across the supply chain, ensuring learning related to product safety is embedded.
• Promoting a culture of zero defects within the area of accountability and ensuring manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture support Right First Time manufacture.
• Coaching the Manufacturing Engineering community in the use of RRPS, DMAIC and Systems Engineering tools.
• Ensuring compliance with all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards.
• Identifying, synthesising and locally governing requirements for improvements and innovations in manufacturing processes and methods of manufacture within the area of accountability.
• Prioritising and promoting the launch of new projects based on business case.
• Specifying Manufacturing Engineering and process requirements and making technical decisions within the area of accountability.
• Chairing the Control Authority governing change for the area of accountability, subject to appropriate delegation.

Position Qualifications:

• Strong technical knowledge and experience of Manufacturing Engineering processes, methods of manufacture and production capability.
• Experience of leading Manufacturing Engineering activity within a plant, facility or supply chain environment.
• Demonstrable experience of technical governance and decision-making within an area of accountability.
• Experience of working across the product lifecycle and through the supply chain.
• Strong understanding of product safety, quality and manufacturing process capability.
• Experience of leading teams, developing capability and coaching others within a technical environment.
• Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal and external supply chains.

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience of acting as a Technical Authority or equivalent within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience of Production Technical Packages, process readiness and manufacturing capability assessment.
• Knowledge and experience of RRPS, DMAIC and Systems Engineering tools.
• Experience of Manufacturing Technology, Digital Manufacturing and Product Introduction activities.
• Experience of managing Manufacturing Engineering load/capacity plans, budgets and project deliverables.
• Experience of working with Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders, Manufacturing Process Owners and suppliers to drive best practice and continuous improvement.
