The Managing Counsel provides legal support for revenue-generating activities, manages legal risks, leads client onboarding, and supports product development in a fast-paced legal environment.
We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Managing Counsel, Director to join our Markets, CCM and GSS Enablement Global Legal Practice. This role is located in London.
In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways:
- Provide senior legal support for revenue-generating activities within Buy Side Trading Solutions (BTS), enabling commercial growth while effectively managing legal and regulatory risks.
- Lead and support high-touch legal onboarding for BTS outsourced trading clients, working closely with business, onboarding, and client service teams.
- Support complex product development initiatives for BTS and broader 1BNY solutions.
- Provide capability-aligned legal and regulatory support across client platforms within the Platform Operating Model.
To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following:
- Qualified lawyer in England & Wales or an equivalent jurisdiction, with strong academic and professional credentials.
- Minimum 12 years’ post-qualification experience at a major financial institution or a leading law firm, advising on financial derivatives, securities, and/or structured products.
- Demonstrated ability to support complex client legal onboarding, product development, and revenue-enabling initiatives, while appropriately balancing legal and regulatory risk.
- Proven track record of partnering effectively with clients to deliver commercially focused, risk-balanced legal and regulatory advice on complex matters, including buy-side requirements.
- Significant experience operating at senior stakeholder level, providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice in an agile, fast-paced environment.
