Job Description

Checkout.com is looking for a Manager Financial Control to join our UK Finance team reporting to the Regional Finance Director.

This is a very exciting opportunity for a finance professional to join a rapidly expanding global company. The role is in a multi-layered global finance team and will be a central point for finance for the UK region, covering our main UK entities and their branches around the world. 

The ideal candidate will be a great leader with a willingness to be hands-on, someone that is self motivated with excellent communication skills. You will be joining a growing global controller team that is building a more controlled and best in class environment. The role owns the reporting and month end processes for our UK entities which includes the largest regulated entity as well as the largest cost centre and entrepreneur of the Checkout group. There will also be involvement in the reporting and financial control of the branches in countries such as Mauritius, Portugal, Spain and Netherlands. 

Role overview | Remit and responsibilities:

  • Be the main point of contact in Finance for our UK entities with other teams in Finance and the wider business

  • Responsible for strengthening the control environment by building and improving processes and controls to increase the confidence and trust in our financial reporting

  • Responsible for the month end reporting of UK entities and supporting junior members of the team on the branches, liaising with FP&A and Financial Reporting with regard to variance analysis, risks and opportunities

  • Alongside numerous teams, including; tax, treasury and compliance, ensuring the entities remain compliant with all regulations

  • Manage the local audits for entities that fall outside of the group level managed process 

  • Managing external stakeholders such auditors and service providers

  • Managing a team of two people

  • Participate in local and global ad hoc projects as necessary

  • Responsible for building a strong processes and controls that are appropriate for a highly regulated environment

Qualifications

Successful candidates will bring a strong accounting and financial control background, leading and delivering financial accounting and month end processes at scale in complex, regulatory environments, ideally within traditional finance, banking or payments/fintech.

  • Highly motivated and able to work towards tight deadlines on multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment

  • Experience delivering financial statement reporting and delivering audits on time 

  • Excellent stakeholder manager, comfortable being a contact point in finance and liaising with numerous stakeholders across Checkout and external providers including auditors

  • Professional finance qualification such as the ACA or equivalent. You will also hold practical knowledge of IFRS and general accounting principles.

  • Systems knowledge, particularly Workday would be highly desirable

  • 8+ years of financial accounting and controls experience ideally within a listed environment or large complex company.
