Key Responsibilities

Technical Claims Handling

  • Own a complex caseload from First Notice of Loss (FNOL) to resolution, including coverage analysis, quantification, negotiation, and settlement (litigated and non‑litigated).

  • Apply knowledge of contingency policy forms, both LMA and bespoke (particularly event cancellation/non‑appearance/ and some film production),

  • Apply an understanding of underlying budgets and underlying contracts between clients and third parties, interpreting complex event/tour/production budgets and reviewing bespoke service contracts/deal memos etc.

  • Commission and manage experts (loss adjusters, forensic accountants, meteorologists, medical experts, legal counsel).

  • Set and maintain accurate case reserves; provide timely reserve movements and large loss reports.

  • Lead coverage positions and strategy on major losses; draft coverage letters aligned with policy wordings and relevant law.

  • Drive optimal outcomes through ADR (mediation/arbitration) and litigation management; instruct external counsel and manage panel performance.

Stakeholder & Market Engagement

  • Act as a primary contact for insureds, brokers, coverholders, co‑insurers, reinsurers, and TPAs; chair technical claim reviews and settlement meetings.

  • Coordinate with underwriting on loss trends, risk selection insights, and wordings

  • Liaise with actuarial/finance on IBNR, triangulations, and portfolio reserving; support reinsurance bordereaux production/inwards bordereaux management. Manage claims MI integrity.

  • Support reinsurance recoveries as required: produce accurate proofs of loss, respond to queries, and collaborate with RI claims.

Governance, Compliance & Data

  • Ensure compliance with IGI standards and internal controls, including management of conduct risk and adhering to TCF initiatives, Maintain claims file quality (audit‑ready), data accuracy, and timeliness (in accordance with SLAs, KPIs).

  • Contribute to Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and lessons learned, feeding back to underwriting and risk engineering.

Leadership & Capability Building

  • Mentor and coach claims colleagues as required; provide file surgeries, peer reviews, and training on contingency topics.

  • Represent IGI claims in product/wording forums; lead CAT/event response playbooks for large-scale cancellations

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years specialty claims experience, including 5+ years in Contingency

  • Proven track record handling large and complex losses with USA experience, including litigated matters Strong familiarity with London Market claims protocols, and co‑insurance/reinsurance structures.

  • Professional qualifications: ACII. FCII/Chartered Insurer a plus.

  • Degree in Law, Business, Risk, or related discipline preferred.

Technical Competencies

  • Policy & Coverage: Event cancellation/non‑appearance/ contingent political violence /film wording and extension/exclusion interpretation; Legal & Regulatory: Contract and insurance law, causation/proximate cause, warranties/conditions precedent; familiarity with UK/Lloyd’s, EU, US (E&S where relevant), and key APAC/MENA considerations.

  • Financial Analysis: Event budgets, gross revenue and costs and expense validation, understanding of the Ascertained Net Loss clause and it’s operation, reconciliation of declared values, underinsurance, and sums insured; forensic accounting oversight.

  • Reinsurance: Notice, allocation, reporting, and recoveries (quota share/surplus/XoL; claims control/claims cooperation clauses).

  • Data & Tools: Claims platforms (Guidewire/Sequel/Sapiens or similar), Excel/Power BI; ability to build clear MI and dashboards.
