Job DescriptionThe Management Accountant will be responsible for the delivery of management accounting, reporting and analysis for the Group’s central support functions and capital expenditure (Capex). This includes ownership of profit and loss and balance sheet reporting, preparation of journals, reconciliations, and providing insightful financial analysis to support decision-making across the business.
The role will partner with budget holders across central functions, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and effective budget management.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
Management Accounts
- Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts for central support functions, including People, Marketing, Property, Finance, IT and other overhead cost centres.
- Produce accurate and timely profit and loss reporting, including detailed variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year performance.
- Prepare and post monthly journals, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and comply with accounting standards and company policies.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving any reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Prepare management accounts commentary, providing clear explanations of financial performance, risks, opportunities and key business drivers.
- Monitor overhead expenditure, identifying trends, cost-saving opportunities and areas requiring management attention.
- Support the month-end close process, ensuring reporting deadlines are met and financial information is complete and accurate.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts and long-range planning for central support functions.
Capital Expenditure (Capex)
- Prepare monthly reporting and analysis of capital expenditure for all dental practices in the estate.
- Monitor Capex spend against approved budgets and forecasts, providing detailed variance analysis and commentary to stakeholders.
- Review capital expenditure requests to ensure appropriate approvals, business justification and compliance with internal governance requirements.
- Assess capital work in progress balances to ensure expenditure is correctly classified and transferred to fixed assets when appropriate.
- Prepare and post Capex-related journals, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation and transfers.
- Maintain accurate fixed asset records and support periodic asset verification exercises.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal policies relating to capital expenditure and fixed assets.
Qualifications
Experience Required for the role
Essential
- Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) – Recently qualified or final exam stages
- Proven experience as a Management Accountant or similar role.
- Proven ability to deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Results driven with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a fast-paced business.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting/ERP systems.
Desired
- Experience in PE environment, ideally healthcare or similar industry.
- Experience using Oracle Fusion ERP system.
