Summary of our opportunity
The Associate role sits at the centre of our investing activity and is responsible for supporting origination, scientific and commercial diligence, and execution of investments across the UK, Europe and the US. You will help deliver high-quality scientific analyses, contribute to financial modelling, and support the investment process from initial screening through to completion. You will work regularly and play a key role in origination, diligence and execution of investments across Europe and the US, working within a London-based team of experienced scientists and investors. You will help drive investment processes from early screening through to completion, while also supporting portfolio monitoring and contributing to internal strategy discussions. You will also work regularly with senior stakeholders—including Partners, Directors, scientific advisers, and cross-functional experts—to deliver high-quality scientific and financial analysis.
Primary responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
Investment Diligence & Execution
Lead scientific and clinical diligence on therapeutic programs, leveraging your academic or industry background.
Analyse data packages, publications, regulatory filings, and competitive landscapes.
Build and review financial models, including cap tables and valuation scenarios.
Support preparation of investment committee materials.
Coordinate diligence workstreams across internal and external stakeholders.
Deal Sourcing & Ecosystem Engagement
Meet early-stage and clinical-stage biotech companies; evaluate fit with strategy.
Build and maintain a strong network across biotech founders, academics, venture investors, banks, and pharma.
Attend conferences and represent ICG Life Sciences externally.
Portfolio & Team Support
Support oversight of portfolio companies, including attending board or observer meetings as appropriate.
Track clinical and operational progress, reviewing scientific updates.
Contribute to internal portfolio reviews, reporting and analytics.
Provide support on strategic projects, fundraising activities, and market research.
Key Requirements/ Qualifications
You will have demonstrable experience of:
Essential
Advanced degree in a life sciences discipline (PhD strongly preferred; MSc with relevant experience considered).
Experience in biotech or pharma companies, venture capital, academia or life sciences consulting.
Strong ability to interpret scientific data and literature.
Familiarity with diligence processes, drug development pathways, and competitive analyses.
Working knowledge of cap tables and financial modelling (training will be provided as needed).
Ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders within a lean team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
Previous investing experience or exposure to venture capital.
Experience working cross-functionally with clinicians, scientists, regulatory or commercial functions.
Existing network within the biotech/therapeutics ecosystem.
