Job Description

We are seeking a 3-5 years’ PQE solicitor qualified in England & Wales, to join our in‑house legal team as Legal Counsel.

The role will involve providing clear, pragmatic advice across a range of technology and commercial matters, as well as managing a broad range of other legal matters (including data protection, compliance and employment matters). The successful candidate will proactively contribute to the improvement of legal processes and templates.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver legally-robust and commercially-focused solutions which support business objectives while appropriately managing risk.

The role primarily supports UK operations, with exposure to wider European activities (including France and Germany) and requires the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements (including IT services agreements, statements of work, RFP/RFI documentation, NDAs, vendor contracts and marketing agreements).
  • Advise on data protection, information security and regulatory compliance (including GDPR, subject access requests and cross-border data transfers).
  • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments in the UK and EU, assess their impact on the business and support initiatives to achieve compliance.
  • Contribute to the development and review of internal policies and governance frameworks.
  • Assist with dispute resolution matters and litigation, working with and managing external counsel where required.
  • Assist with employment matters (including employee relations issues, HR policies, employment-related contracts and compliance with applicable laws).
  • Support corporate governance and general commercial matters, working with senior stakeholders as required.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal team precedents and processes and assist with delivery of training to internal stakeholders.

Key Competencies

  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales with 3–5 years’ PQE.
  • Strong experience in commercial contract drafting and negotiation, particularly with technology services contracts.
  • Good working knowledge of data protection and information security-related regulatory frameworks (including GDPR).
  • Experience with UK public sector contracts and cross-border matters is desirable.
  • High‑quality drafting capability and strong technical ability.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; professional in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to explain legal issues clearly to non‑legal stakeholders and comfortable leading negotiations with external parties.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident working independently and collaboratively. 
  • Proactive, with the ability to identify legal risks and opportunities, take ownership of issues through to resolution and drive improvements to legal processes and templates.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Additional European languages are an advantage but not essential.
