Role Overview:

Reporting to the Bank's General Counsel - the Senior Legal Counsel will support the organisation’s legal function by managing a wide range of commercial and corporate matters.The role requires a proactive, independent legal professional with sound judgment who can work closely with the legal team and internal stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Providing legal support on a wide range of banking and financial matters including corporate lending, banking products, capital markets, corporate governance, consume protection, employment law, data protection and general intellectual property law
  • Monitor and remain up to date with legislative and regulatory developments across
  • Keeping up to date on appropriate laws and regulations
  • Support governance matters including board/company secretarial functions, governance frameworks and corporate processes and policies
  • Manage litigation, complaints and contentious regulatory matters in collaboration with external legal support where necessary
  • Other duties as may be determined from time to time by the Bank's General Counsel

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Qualified Lawyer in Malta or other EU Jurisdiction with a valid practicing warrant
  • Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in banking, financial services or a related regulated sector
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of European financial services legislation including but not limited to CRR/CRD, MiFID, SFDR, AML and financial crime legislation
  • Prior working experience either at a financial institution or top tier commercial law firm

Skill and Requirements:

  • Excellent analytical abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to handle complex cross-border legal matters independently
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to provide clear, pragmatic and business-oriented advice
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-cultural dynamic work environment
  • Experience with cryptocurrencies and digital assets will be considered an asset
