What you'll do
You'll be joining NatWest Markets’ Legal Securitisation and Portfolio Derivative Structuring (SPDS) and UK Corporate Risk Solutions (CRS) team, where we provide transactional and advisory support to NatWest Markets' hedging activities, predominantly traded through the SPDS and CRS businesses.
You’ll deliver and help coordinate expert, accurate and cost-effective legal advice, either directly or through external law firms. We'll look to you to ensure that your advice is readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within relevant time scales and that it’s commercial, proactive and manages or minimises legal risks.
Day to day, you’ll be:
- Managing and coordinating high value and product specific legal advice, support and strategy to our SPDS and CRS businesses, in particular helping to arrange transactions for the bank's customers
- Working with the front office and legal colleagues to make sure all issues, projects and initiatives are delivered efficiently
- Delivering continuous improvement in the operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
- Managing the communication of internal and external legal advice and providing input on transactions and projects to stakeholders in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner
- Managing legal costs through the use of e-billing and other cost tools and driving a culture of disciplined cost management and controls.
The skills you'll need
To join us in this role, you’ll need to be a qualified solicitor or barrister with experience of providing legal advice for derivative transactions including a good understanding of the ISDA Master Agreement. You’ll be able to draw on your derivatives experience either in financial services or at a law firm.
We’ll also be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Good knowledge of general banking and finance practices, and of the principal regulatory and legal framework within the banking industry
- Experience of working with law firms and other professional advisers or consultants
- The ability to build rapport and establish strong relationships with senior executives, other colleagues and external professional contacts
- A self starting approach, able to hit the ground running and keen to take on new areas of responsibility
