  • This role offers the advantage of a varied and extensive breadth of work, including working on market leading transactions, strategic projects and implementing new legislation and regulation

What you'll do

You’ll be working with the front office and legal colleagues to make sure all issues, projects and initiatives are delivered efficiently. You'll also deliver and help coordinate expert, accurate and cost-effective legal advice, either directly or through external law firms, principally to NatWest Markets’ Investor Backed (Subscription Line) and Asset Backed (NAV Line) Funds Finance teams. You'll make sure that your advice is accurate, readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered at the right time, and remains commercial while minimising legal risks.

Day to day, you’ll be:

  • Managing and coordinating high value and product specific legal advice, support and strategy to our financing and risk transformation businesses, in particular helping to arrange transactions for the bank's customers
  • Delivering continuous improvement in the operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
  • Managing the communication of internal and external legal advice and providing input on transactions and projects to stakeholders in a commercial, user friendly and efficient manner
  • Managing legal costs through the use of e-billing, auctions and other cost tools and driving a culture of disciplined cost management and controls

The skills you'll need

To join us in this role, you’ll need to be a qualified solicitor or barrister with demonstrable experience of providing legal and commercial advice on funds finance transactions. You’ll be able to draw on your funds finance experience either in financial services, with a law firm or other professional services advisers.

We’ll also be looking for you to demonstrate:

  • In depth knowledge of general banking and finance practices, and of the principal regulatory and legal framework within the banking industry
  • Knowledge or experience of structured financial activities which may include repo and other securities financing and risk transformation transactions
  • The ability to build rapport and establish strong relationships, especially with senior colleagues
  • Good commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • A motivation to learn and gain knowledge of other structured finance and capital management transactions
