About the role

We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to join us in our London office, working closely with our business teams (including Uswitch, Confused.com, Money.co.uk Mojo Mortgages) to push the needle forward as a partner in the deal. 

As our Legal Counsel, you’ll play a key role in providing strategic legal guidance across the organisation, independently leading complex commercial transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and actively managing legal risk.You’ll have an interest in a varied workload, with strong drafting and negotiating skills, and the ability to apply them independently to drive the business forward and create real value. Outside of daily contracting, you’ll have a focus on developing and maintaining the legal processes, policies and precedents that underpin our business. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop more junior team members.

What you'll be doing:

  • Work with our business teams to draft, negotiate and execute commercial agreements, whilst maintaining the processes that underpin them.
  • Be a trusted legal advisor to our commercial teams to help establish, maintain and expand business relationships
  • Provide input into new products and initiatives - no two days are the same!
  • Provide day-to-day legal perspective and guidance, as well as risk assessment and mitigation
  • Advise our business teams on compliance with data protection and e-privacy laws
  • Assist with acquisitions and corporate integration projects
  • Help establish and manage a framework of policies and guidance to manage legal and commercial issues within our business
  • Developing junior team members;


What you'll bring to the role:

Essentials:

  • 3 to 6 years’ post-qualification experience in-house or at a commercial or corporate law firm with experience providing full service commercial legal support (the reference to PQE is a guide only. We welcome applications from candidates with more or less PQE). 
  • An experience and appreciation of the challenges and requirements of delivering legal support in a fast moving commercial in-house team. Ability to be impactful from an early stage. 
  • Qualified to practice as a solicitor in England and Wales (or another common law jurisdiction)
  • Proven technical ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements to tight timescales
  • Experience of advising on IT, data protection/e-privacy laws as well as corporate law 

Desirables:

  • Knowledge of company secretarial matters
  • Knowledge of intellectual property and competition law
  • Experience of developing and training junior lawyers;
  • Regulated sector experience
