Location: London - Hybrid-Working: 3 days in office, 2 days from home

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join APEXX’s Legal & Compliance team, providing front-line guidance and support across all areas of the business. You will work closely with our General Counsel and wider business to support a broad range of commercial and legal matters, gaining significant exposure to the day to day operations of a fast-paced, international FinTech. This is a generalist role offering a high level of commercial involvement.
WHAT YOU’LL DOING:

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role supporting the General Counsel with several key elements including:

  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating a range of complex commercial agreements

  • Delivering legal and strategic advice to different areas of the business on a variety of matters ranging from financial regulation and the payments ecosystem, contracts, negotiations, documentation, client issues, employment, compliance, IP, IT, marketing and data protection

  • Supporting the commercial teams and wider business in discussions with customers, partners and suppliers

  • Identifying legal and regulatory risks related to the introduction of new products and expansion into new markets

  • Helping to identify, prepare and deliver training to the business on relevant legal and commercial issues

  • Delivering continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, identifying inefficiencies and improvement

ABOUT YOU:

  • You’ve done this before: You’ll be a qualified lawyer with some post qualification experience (1-2+ years PQE) ideally working within Startups, FinTech or Payments.

  • You have sound judgement: The ability to provide sound legal advice and exercise good business judgement and to promptly identify, analyse and mitigate risks and issues within the business while maximising commercial opportunities.

  • You think creatively: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to confidently work with stakeholders across the business to achieve objectives.

  • You communicate effectively: Communication is key to the role including being able to advise stakeholders across all parts of the business on challenging legal issues in layman’s terms.

  • You have passion and drive: The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with a high level of competing tasks and tight deadlines and to be adaptable, coping with change quickly.

  • You’re in the detail: Thoroughness and accuracy are pivotal to your role including in drafting, advising on, and negotiating commercial agreements and researching legal issues.

  • You lead from the front: This is a hands-on role, and you will be expected to handle significant and complex legal matters and provide direction across the business, including to senior level stakeholders.
