We’re seeking a Maritime Lawyer to join our in-house Maritime Law legal team.

The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in maritime law with experience in handling a range of shipping related matters, including dispute resolution and contract drafting.

The role of Legal Counsel requires a proactive legal professional who can understand and handle complex legal issues and support the company’s business operations.  The role offers excellent exposure to a wide variety of maritime related legal matters in a fast-paced commercial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Senior Legal Counsels on maritime disputes (full range of wet and dry matters), maritime contracts (including charterparties, bills of lading, VSAs) and vessel related transactions (e.g. new builds, retrofit, recycling).
  • Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of maritime law matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Handling and advising on disputes arising from shipping operations and shipping related contracts, including charter party disputes and marine casualties.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various maritime-related contracts and specific clauses, including for charter parties, vessel sharing agreements, shipbuilding, and retrofit contracts.
  • Manage arbitrations, court proceedings, and liaise with external lawyers, as necessary.

What are we looking for:

  • A qualified lawyer (English or Danish) with a minimum of 1-3 years experience in maritime law, preferably with a maritime law firm.
  • Experience in handling a wide variety of shipping disputes, for example, charterparty disputes, cargo claims, collisions and salvage.
  • Experience in handling arbitrations and court proceedings.
  • Experience in ship finance, new buildings, or ship recycling is desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with many different stakeholders within the Company.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative attitude, whilst having the ability to work independently and manage their own workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to provide clear, concise and prompt advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good commercial awareness and industry knowledge.
