Reports to:  VP, Associate General Counsel Legal

Region & Area:  Global (office location London, UK)

Job Purpose:

Legal Counsel, Global Inbound Contracting (Procurement) is a role within the AVEVA Legal Team, supporting the evolving technology, marketing, HR and other commercial operational needs of the AVEVA Group. This role is primarily focussed on supporting AVEVA’s in bound contracting for shared global services as they relate to enterprise-wide technology, professional services agreements, HR systems/benefits, marketing events and subcontractor/consultancy agreements. In addition to general contract negotiation experience, the candidate should have experience of reviewing and negotiationg contracts for cloud and SaaS based services, professional services agreements and outsourcing agreements.

The candidate should have a pro-active and can-do attitude with confidence to work independently, whilst seeking out appropriate guidance from Senior lawyers. Strong communication skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships with other key stakeholders is an essential requirement of the role.

As well as building on existing experience, the role will provide the successful candidate with an opportunity to work across a broad range of areas including on strategic matters such as as group transformational projects, AI governance projects, process improvements, self service templates etc.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage and negotiate core strategic global agreements for shared services, working closely with IT operations, HR, marketing and procurement teams. 
  • Provide ongoing legal support for business stakeholders throughout the contract lifecycle for enterprise agreements and systems, by providing timely and risk-based advice.
  • Support Senior lawyers on complex agreements and projects and management of day-to-day requests for legal support.
  • Work closely with other members of the AVEVA Legal Team in the regions (EMEA, APAC, AMER) and specialist teams such as compliance, privacy, security and corporate to ensure all AVEVA’s operational needs are addressed, and risks are properly assessed and approved.
  • Assist in updating and implementing process improvements, launching new strategic initiatives that reflect the risk profile agreed with AVEVA’s General Counsel.
  • Manage timely review of less significant contracts or those that require jurisdictional specific advice. 
  • Assist in the implementation of training programs reflecting the specific needs of the business.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Legal Counsel with a background in negotiating and drafting enterprise-wide agreements with experience of cloud and SaaS based agreements and agreements for professional services and outsourcing.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to spot risks and offer constructive solutions, advising on risk management such as operation of milestones, penalties, damages etc.
  • Awareness of data privacy issues as they arise in business-to-business commercial agreements, experience in reviewing data processing agreements.
  • Motivated to make improvements, such as updating standard templates, process improvements, rollout of training.
  • Previous experience of working in-house for a global software company.

Hybrid working

By default, employees are expected to be in their local AVEVA office three days a week, but some positions are fully office-based. Roles supporting particular customers or markets are sometimes remote.
